Registration parameters in the Media tool

Registration parameters will be available only if side-edge registration is enabled on your device.  The Options section in the Device Configuration tool lists the options that are available.

Registration mode

Select the registration edge of a plate. The registration edge is the edge that:

  • The image will be aligned with

  • Will be the along-cylinder edge on the press

Registration usually involves two points along the registration edge and a third point along a side edge.

If this device has side-edge registration enabled, you can select whether registration takes place along the leading edge or the side edge.

Leading Edge

The device uses the edge detection strip located near the leading edge clamps to look along the drum for one registration point at the home edge of the plate. The second and third registration points are on the leading edge.

This is the usual registration method and it is the method you must use for media over a certain size (too large for portrait loading).

Side Edge

The device uses the edge detection strip located near the leading edge clamps and another edge detection strip located midway around the drum to look around the drum for two registration points at the side edge of the plate. The third registration point is on the leading edge.

These detection points have been determined for each device and are not configurable. The side edge may or may not be the long edge of the plate.

If the side edge is the long edge of the plate (portrait orientation) and if you are using a plate size that is small enough to allow two plates to be loaded at once, this registration method increases throughput.

Configurable Side Edge

The device looks for two detection points that you define (see below) at the side edge of the plate. The side edge may or may not be the long edge of the plate.

Edge to pin offset

To use configurable side edge registration, you must define two edge detection points.

Edge to pin offset
is the distance from the leading edge to the first point.

Pin spacing

Pin spacing is the distance between the two edge detection points.
