********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.20.05 * * September 25, 2002: * ********************************************************************* ===================================================================== Quantum Firmware 1.20.05 ======================== This is a patch release to 1.20.04 that allows for smaller plates to be imaged. Typing "product" at the diagnostic monitor command prompt shows you the legal range. The Xilinix version recommended is now 1.37. There is no simulator in this release folder because for simulation purposes this version is exactly the same as 1.20.03. Quantum Firmware 1.20.04 ======================== This is a patch release to 1.20.03 that solves the following problems: 1. Disable the drum amplifier when drum is idle to prevent drum run- away problems. 2. Access the dongle in a way that minimizes the chance of getting a false dongle not deteceted message. There is no simulator in this release folder because for simulation purposes this version is exactly the same as the previous one, 1.20.03. Quantum Firmware 1.20.03 ======================== For all TMCE based Lotem Quantum devices, the following firmware versions are recommended: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mcelca0132.bin MCE Xilinx Version 1.32 (or higher) mceboot109.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.09 (or higher) mcepost103.bin MCE Post Code version 1.03 (or higher) mcerec100.bin MCE Recovery Code 1.00 (or higher) This is a patch release to Quantum Firmware Release 1.20.02 that solves the following problems: * Overwriting on Positive Media. Previous versions of the firmware and Xilinx would cause a completely solid image to be output when using an overwriting pattern on positive media. This has been fixed, but REQUIRES a new Xilinx file: mcelca0132.bin * Sticky head errors. The previous version of firmware could configure the imaging head in such a way that each time a plot was attempted an error would be generated from the previous plot. This would persist until the TMCE was reset. This has been fixed. * Solves a bug where an error would be reported if two "Image Params" RCON commands were received close together. * Board Level Simulation. The firmware no longer requires carriage hardware to be present when simulating the carriage. ===>IMPORTANT: When simulating the carriage on a board that has carriage hardware connected, THE CARRIAGE WILL MOVE when doing simulated plots. ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.20.02 * * February 13, 2002: * ********************************************************************* ===================================================================== Quantum Firmware 1.20.02 ======================== This is a patch release to Quantum Firmware Release 1.20.01 that solves a problem with the drum stopat command that occurs at the end of plots. In this version, the drum stopat command will only be called by the plot manager if the drum has been commanded to spinn for imaging. This was done to ensure that in the case of a plot failure, that the drum stopat command would not be called when the drum was only partially loaded. It is assumed by the firmware that for ANY failed image the drum will be explicitly commanded to the unload position after the plot sequence has completed. If the imaging sequence terminates successfully (a normal plot) then the drum stopat command will have been called to move the drum to the commanded unload position. ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.20.01 * * February 6, 2002: * ********************************************************************* ===================================================================== Quantum Firmware 1.20.01 ======================== This is a patch release to Quantum Firmware Release 1.20 that solves the following problems: * fixes a race condition problem that would result in errors reported by the head relating to laser control. These errors occurred during the initialization phase of the plot sequence. * The message "Timeout waiting for SCSI data" was changed to the more accurate text "Timeout waiting for image data" * fixed another race condition that could cause the "READY_FOR_SCSI" image state to immediately change to "CALIBRATING" as a result of a successful edge detect. Depending on the relative timing of these events and the polling rate of the Lotem Controller, the READY_FOR_SCSI state could be missed which would prevent the image data transfer from starting. This would result in the error: "Timeout waiting for SCSI data". The edge detection completion no longer changes the image state to "CALIBARTING". ********************************************************************* *** Previous Release Information *** ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.20 * ===================================================================== February 4, 2002: ===================================================================== For Quantum 850, Quantum 800, and Quantum 400, (including Spectrum devices) the following firmware versions are recommended: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mcelca0125.bin MCE Xilinx Version 1.25 (or higher) mceboot109.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.09 (or higher) mcepost103.bin MCE Post Code version 1.03 (or higher) mcerec100.bin MCE Recovery Code 1.00 (or higher) ===================================================================== ===================================================================== For Spectrum Devices (Lotem Quantum Spectrum), this firmware REQUIRES: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mceboot109.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.09 or higher mcedata0101.bin MCE Pattern Data version 1.01 ==> Note you must use bload.exe version 1.14 or higher to load mcedata0101.bin into a TMCE board. ===================================================================== The QuantumSeries.spt Version 0.9 is provided and is compatible with this release of firmware. ===================================================================== *** Major Issues addressed by this firmware: *** ===================================================================== This version of firmware contains all of the functionality of version 1.18.01 with the following changes: * The firmware now uses 6mm for the Leading Edge clamp margin. Previously the Leading Edge clamp margin was set to 8mm. The trailing edge clamp margin remains at 6mm. * The firmware now supports the "Unload Drum Position" image parameter that will allow the controller application to specify the position for the drum at the end of plotting. This is intended as an optimization to increase throughput. The use of this image parameter is optional. * The edge detection now starts searching 5mm before the expected edge rather than 12.5mm before it. The width of the initial search range remains the same. This change is done for throughput reasons. * The firmware now supports a password protected drum speed limit. THIS CHANGE REQUIRES A DONGLE ON EVERY MACHINE RUNNING THIS FIRMWARE. The diagnostic command "feature" may be used to display the current maximum drum speed setting. The default drum speed is 180 RPM. For obvious reasons the password is not printed in this document. * The clamp shadow margins have been changed to 15750 and 9000 microns for the leading and trailing clamp shadows respectively. * At the end of every plot CRC values will be output for the hotlink data, and several other internal systems. These CRCs are intended for diagnostic use, and as such this output only occurs in VBS engineering or debug modes. * Imaging jobs that specify a mainscan image size that is larger than the imageable mainscan region of the media will be rejected. * GC Adjustments are now made based on carriage position rather than swath count. (See CTP problem report 1779 for more information) * Edge Test now works when it is the first command issued after a reset. * The TH2 Laser Power Monitoring feature is now supported. This requires updated TH2 head firmware. Use Thermal 2 firmware version 1.01 or higher. To use this feature, you must ensure that the TH2 "set sys PowerMonitor" value is set to True. * A bug in the edge detection system was fixed, that prevented edge detection from performing more than one edge detection pass. * Fatal errors generated by the TH2 head during imaging are now trapped and will fail the plot. * For devices that have TrackProfile GC values configured for versions of firmware prior to 1.20, an SPlot/ServiceShell script is provided that will update the TrackProfile values so that they work properly. The upgrade procedure is as follows: 1. Update the MCE firmware to Release version 1.20. 2. Save the GC configuration of the device by saving the diagnostic log responses to the "set gc" and "set gc trackprofile" commands. Keep this information handy in case you have to downgrade. 3. If any of the track profile data is non-zero, then you should run the upgrade script. The script is called "TrackProfileUpdate.spt", and must be run using either SPlot or ServiceShell. The script will modify the TrackProfile values by subtracting the first entry from all of the entries. 4. If script finishes with a dialog box that says "The track profile data has been updated.", or if the script says "The track profile did not need to be updated" then you are done. Anything other than this means you should restore the gc trackprofile data to the values obtained in step 2. NOTE: failure to run this script on devices that have track profile data configured could result in a constant main scan image shift compared to the previous version of firmware. ********************************************************************* *** Previous Release Information *** ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.18.01 * November 22,2001: ===================================================================== For Quantum 850, Quantum 800, and Quantum 400, the following firmware versions are recommended: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mcelca0105.bin MCE Xilinx Version 1.05 (or higher) mceboot108.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.08 (or higher) mcepost103.bin MCE Post Code version 1.03 (or higher) mcerec100.bin MCE Recovery Code 1.00 (or higher) ===================================================================== ===================================================================== For Spectrum Devices (Lotem Quantum Spectrum), this firmware REQUIRES: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mceboot109.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.09 or higher mcedata0101.bin MCE Pattern Data version 1.01 ==> Note you must use bload.exe version 1.14 or higher to load mcedata0101.bin into a TMCE board. This means that a plot shift of 1 should be 1 mm away from the leading edge clamp. * Plot moffset values are now additive. If there is an outstanding media offset that had been set from the diagnostic monitor, this value will now add to any media offset value that is sent with the image start RCON command. The plot moffset is also relative to the GC pixel origin (clamp). ********************************************************************* *** Previous Release Information *** ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.18 * October 24,2001: ===================================================================== For Quantum 850, Quantum 800, and Quantum 400, the following firmware versions are recommended: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mcelca0105.bin MCE Xilinx Version 1.05 (or higher) mceboot108.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.08 (or higher) mcepost103.bin MCE Post Code version 1.03 (or higher) mcerec100.bin MCE Recovery Code 1.00 (or higher) ===================================================================== ===================================================================== For Spectrum Devices (Lotem Quantum Spectrum), this firmware REQUIRES: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mceboot109.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.09 or higher mcedata0101.bin MCE Pattern Data version 1.01 ==> Note you must use bload.exe version 1.14 or higher to load mcedata0101.bin into a TMCE board. See CTP problem report 1726 for the details. * Also included in this release is a modified method for doing focus learning that causes focus hold for the correct number of swaths at the start of the plot. Previous firmware was doing this incorrectly. See CTP problem report 1711 for a more detailed description. * Fixed several bugs in QuantumSeries.spt that prevented the script from restoring series plot parameters correctly. DOCUMENTATION ADDED: ==================== This is the first Quantum firmware release that includes automatically generated documentation. The documentation is in XML format and is intended for use by technical writers that may wish to format it to suit their needs. The documentation is extensive, and covers commands and parameters that are not necessarily present in the Quantum firmware. See the "Applies to" field in the relevant XML file for the LOTEM800 tag for Quantum specific information. The XML files included in this release are as follows: Quantum_PRM118.xml This file contains the parameters that may be set in the firmware. Note that this file contains parameters that are used by other devices so be sure to check the "applies to" field to see if a specific parameter is applicable to the Quantum device. This PRM file lists parameters for all MCE and DOP devices. Quantum_NVS118.xml This is a companion file to the PRM file that contains parameter descriptions for firmware components that are "legacy" systems. These systems are in the process of being replaced, and converted over to the PRM module. Quantum_MOP118.xml The MOP file contains diagnostic monitor commands. Note that only "field" level commands should ever be used. The remainder of commands that are present in this file are not guaranteed to remain the same over time. Quantum_ERR118.xml The ERR file contains descriptions of the errors that can be generated by the firmware. See the "Applies to" field to see if a specific error is applicable to the Quantum device. ********************************************************************* *** Previous Release Information *** ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.16.01 * October 16,2001: This is a point release to the Quantum 1.16 release that corrects several serious bugs. Global mainscan shift remains relative to the first imageable pixel. Similarly, mainscan media offset is also relative to the edge of the media. These shifts and offsets are bounded by the size of the leading edge clamp margin. * PR 1715: Aborts plot if the stroke width specified by an overwriting pattern does not equal the stroke width of the head. * Display warning message if PLL phase error exceeds a certain threshold, and abort the plot if the phase error exceeds another, higher, threshold. The values for the thresholds are preliminary. * PR 1665: Interpret HDP SSSA value as mils instead of microns. ********************************************************************* *** Previous Release Information *** ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.14 * October 11,2001: ===================================================================== For Quantum 850, Quantum 800, and Quantum 400, the following firmware versions are recommended: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mcelca0105.bin MCE Xilinx Version 1.05 (or higher) mceboot108.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.08 (or higher) mcepost103.bin MCE Post Code version 1.03 (or higher) mcerec100.bin MCE Recovery Code 1.00 (or higher) ===================================================================== ===================================================================== For Spectrum Devices (Lotem Quantum Spectrum), this firmware REQUIRES: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mceboot109.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.09 or higher mcedata0101.bin MCE Pattern Data version 1.01 ==> Note you must use bload.exe version 1.14 or higher to load mcedata0101.bin into a TMCE board. This command sets the media offset to be applied to all images. This command is similar to the PLOT SHIFT command, except that it does not affect the image size. This is a problem that has yet to be fully solved concerning proofs and shifting. Script support was also added in to the integration script for the media offset. This should be used only for proofing. Carriage travel limit unexpectedly hit error during Edge Detect --------------------------------------------------------------- Modified MPCCAR_EdgeSearchPosition to truncate search region start at 0 when shifting region in a homeward direction. Some Series Plot Support (not fully complete) --------------------------------------------- Added preliminary support for series plots generated from the workstation. This involves processing the following fields from the image parameter structure MIC_IMAGE_PARAM_TYPE: - SeriesType - SeriesNumStrips - SeriesWidth - SeriesStart - SeriesStep - SeriesGap If the series type is non-zero, then the plot is repeated according to the SeriesNumStrips value. On each iteration, the SeriesStart and SeriesStep values are combined to configure a head parameter (NOTE: NOT YET IMPLEMENTED). The width of each strip is specified by the SeriesWidth parameter. The gap between strips is specified by the SeriesGap parameter. Minor problem that showed up in logs ------------------------------------- Fix the engineering debug string for the INVERT parameter which displayed Test plot string intead of Invert string. MCE expose process does not proceed beyond its preparation stage ----------------------------------------------------------------- Fixed bug whereby media was not being unloaded if it was pending during a cancel. Now, media is unloaded during a cancel if it is marked as either loaded OR pending. Edge detection is being performed for proof media, not performed for plates --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Fixed build problem that occured resulted in having proof use edge detect, when it should not have. ********************************************************************* *** Previous Release Information *** ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.10 * September 27,2001: Carriage Fault Detection ======================== Support added for carriage amplifier fault testing. The carriage amplifier is checked for faults before the following commands: (1) 'carriage init' (2) 'carriage move ' (3) 'carriage moveto []' If any carriage amplifier faults are present and can not be immediately cleared these commands will fail immediately. In the case of commands (2) and (3) above, a preexisting carriage amplifier fault will cause a 'carriage init' command to occur first. The carriage amplifier is checked for faults during the following states: (1) While initializing (2) While moving (accelerating or at steady state) (3) While moving to a given position If any fault occurs during these states the carriage stops immediately, acceleration and velocity tables are made inactive, and appropriate errors are generated. The carriage amp faults of any kind will generate the same generic error This fault will become a "parameterized" error with a string parameter pointing to the specific amplifier fault as soon as parameterized errors are supported system-wide. Carriage Now Displays Proper Position ===================================== The decimal portion of the velocity and position display when typing the command "carriage" is now correct to three decimal places Offset Added into Error Codes ============================= A constant offset of 33000 has been added to the ERR_CODE_CREATE() macro. It has been found necessary to change the range of error codes in FW1 so they are completely unique from FW0 error codes. This is to prevent a potentially very confusing situation in the field whereby a given error code could have two completely different meanings across two identical CTP machines. This scenario would occur when existing products manufactured with new hardware/firmware platforms (MCE/FW1) take their place in the field alongside machines based on older platforms (MPE/FW0). *** IF LOTEM CONTROL SOFTWARE COMPARES FOR A SPECIFIC MCE BASED ERROR CODE IT MUST BE UPDATED TO USE THIS VERSION *** Group Jobs Support ================== Added support for grouped jobs - Group Start and Group End RCON commands. This necessitated changes to the way Image Start and Image End commands are handled so that they can be tied to the group to which they belong. For non-group jobs, there should be no changes to the functionality. Head Install on And Thickness ============================= Made sure that the <> command for the MCE uses the thickness of media found on the drum, rather than the thickness that MPC tells it. This ensure that head install on will always move to the right position. In old versions there was a problem with the command only using the thickness from the last plot. End of Plot Race Condition ========================== Fixed bug whereby plot would not finish due to race condition when checking plot completed flag (set by CRG). Now, plot completed flag is latched by ISR. Maximum Media Parameters Now Based On Drum Size and Carriage Travel =================================================================== [PR:CTP1635] The system no longer uses hard coded plate size maximum values. The plate size maximum values are now computed based on the Carriage MTravel parameter, and the drum diameter (set PRD DrumDiam). The Maximum mainscan length that will be accepted by the device is (DrumDiam * PI) in millimeters, while the maximum subscan size is equal to the carriage Max Travel, also in millimeters. Fixed <> and <> Monitor Commands ============================================ Fixed the <> command. This command had some parsing problems that must have occured during the conversion to mop. Also some of help information was updated to be the more standard form, such as is now and is now for the main tsp command. Fixed a bug in the "latch " command that was causing the latch to always be enabled regardless of the parameter. ********************************************************************* *** Previous Release Information *** ********************************************************************* * Release notes for Quantum TMCE Firmware Version 1.08 * August 29,2001: ===================================================================== For Quantum 800 and Quantum 400, the following firmware versions are recommended: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mcelca0105.bin MCE Xilinx Version 1.05 (or higher) mceboot108.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.08 (or higher) mcepost103.bin MCE Post Code version 1.03 (or higher) mcerec100.bin MCE Recovery Code 1.00 (or higher) ===================================================================== ===================================================================== For Spectrum Devices (Lotem Quantum Spectrum), this firmware REQUIRES: File Name Version Information ============== ==================================== mceboot109.bin MCE Boot Code version 1.09 or higher mcedata0101.bin MCE Pattern Data version 1.01 ==> Note you must use bload.exe version 1.14 or higher to load mcedata0101.bin into a TMCE board. Note that for proofing thermal compensation will also be performed (although there are no registration issues with proofing). The adjustments will be based on the media thermal expansion coefficients. Edge Detection disabled for proofing ==================================== The firmware now supports the RCON RIF_IMAGEPARAM_IMAGE_TYPE image parameter that should be sent with the Image Start command, and should be one of the following values: RIF_IMAGETYPE_PLATE for aluminum media RIF_IMAGETYPE_PROOF for proofs When RIF_IMAGETYPE_PROOF is specified, the system will estimate the edge of the receiver based on the media dimensions (it assumes the receiver is centered) and will NOT attempt edge detection. Media Offset parameters (PR# 1617) ======================= Two new RCON Image parameters were created to solve this problem. They are: RIF_IMAGEPARAM_MAINSCAN_MEDIA_OFFSET_UM RIF_IMAGEPARAM_SUBSCAN_MEDIA_OFFSET_UM and should specify the offset (relative to where a plate of the same size would be) of the proofing receiver in microns. Z Stage threshold value ======================= A new TMCE option flag was added that causes the thickness for the Z-stage transition to be specific to Quantum Spectrum devices. For non-Spectrum devices, the Z-Stage will use a media thickness threshold of 200 microns. To enable the proofing specific threshold value of 320 microns, you must enable the proofing option. This is done by using the following diagnostic monitor commands: access enable option spectrum enable You must then reset the TMCE firmware with the following command: reset This will likely cause the Lotem Controller software to lose contact with the TMCE, so you should restart it too. This sequence only has to be done once, as the option setting will be preserved across power cycles. Carriage Defaults ================= The value of the carriage "steps" parameter has automatically been changed to 200 for Quantum devices. Drum Parameter Default ====================== The Drum's default MaxAcc parameter has been changed to 8.000 from 10.000 RCON Query Media 2 command fixed ================================ The RCON Query Media 2 command support now works properly -- it allows gaps in the list of media (where a "gap" is one or more media entries that have no name assigned to them). ********************************************************************* *** Previous Release Information *** ********************************************************************* Quantum Firmware Release 1.06 ===================================================================== This release solves several major issues outlined in the Problem Reporting System.
