Using the Thermal 2 Splot Scripts

Note 1 | Note 2 | Note 3 | Note 4 | Note 5 | Note 6

Note 1

The write laser must be on while executing any of the Thermal 2 Splot scripts. To turn it on, do one of the following:

Note 2

These scripts assume that some type of media is present on the drum in front of a properly installed head. You must turn on the focus servo yourself.

For example, to turn on the servo, at lpos = 0um (the most common location), enter the following commands:

  1. th2> foc mode 1
  2. th2>foc on
  3. th2>foc lpos 0

At the end of the script, you should turn the focus servo off, using the foc off command.

Note 3

To convert raw error units to microns, divide the raw number by the nvs setting foc errorcal.

Note 4

To convert raw lpos units to microns, divide the raw number by the nvs setting foc lposcal.

Note 5

The sum is considered saturated if either an increase in the FOC RcvrGain parameter or a decrease in the surface reflectivity setting does not result in an increase in the sum signal. This tends to happen at 2047, but can happen with a sum signal several hundred lower.

Note 6

The M8 and BP readings are considered saturated if an increase in laser current does not produce an increase in the sensor reading. This tends to happen at a reading of 4095, but can occur at readings as low as or slightly lower than 3500.
