th2io.spt

When to use this script | Instructions

th2io.spt is used to measure and rate the I/O performance from the head back to system operating the script. It is a system diagnostic tool.

Often there are bottlenecks in the system that reduce the net I/O rate to unacceptable levels. This script takes care of some head operations and rates the I/O in a consistant manor.

This script is supplied by the Thermal II group.

When to use this script

Anytime you want to check I/O performance. It is expected that this script will be more useful for system developers.

Instructions

  1. Run the script.
  2. A dialog box will ask if you have a head data log already or if it should create a fake one. Do not choose to create a narrow printing log file unless you are specifically working on improving performance for short lines.
Note: The I/O rate currently goes down by a factor of many times for short lines.
  3. After the log has been aquired a dialog box will ask what percetage of the log to extract, and what offset into the log to start at. It is important not to ask for too much data if you are on a phone connection with limited bandwidth.

Example script output:

ITH2IO: Test and rate head data output performance. Simple diagnostic tool.
