The power of the focus laser diode is much higher than the power that actually reaches the surface of any given media. Many power losses occur in the focus beam path through the head. The focuspower is divided by the 'transmitgain' parameter in the imaging head to arrive at a laser diode power which will ensure the specified focuspower reaches the media surface.
