Uploading elements

How you upload elements to a project or library varies depending on whether you are using Synapse Desktop or a Web browser.

In a Web browser | In Synapse Desktop

In a Web browser

  1. Ensure that the project or library folder into which you want to upload elements is open.

  2. Click New Upload.

The Upload Files dialog box appears.

  1. On the Notes tab, in the Upload Name box, type a name for the upload.

  2. In the Enter notes to attach to this upload box, type any notes pertaining to the upload, if desired.

  3. On the Upload Files tab, locate and select the files that you want to upload and click Add. If the files are located in multiple folders, repeat this step for each separate file location. All of the elements that you want to upload must be listed in the Files to Upload area.

  4. If you want to overwrite any existing elements that have the same file names, select Replace files.

  1. Click Upload.

A dialog box appears with a progress bar indicating the upload progress. If you selected Replace files in step 6, any existing elements with the same names as the elements being uploaded are automatically overwritten.

If you did not select Replace files, and there are existing elements in the project or library that have the same names as the elements being uploaded, all non-conflicting elements are uploaded first, and then the upload pauses and the dialog box displays an error message. What do I do next?

  1. Once the upload is complete, click Close to close the dialog box.

The screen refreshes and the new elements appear in the specified folder within the project or library.

In Synapse Desktop

  1. Ensure that the project or library folder into which you want to upload elements is selected.

  2. Take one of the following actions:

  1. In the New Upload dialog box, in the Upload Title box, type a name for the upload.

  2. If you want to overwrite any existing elements that have the same file names, select Replace existing elements. What happens when I select this option?

  1. Specify the files to upload by taking either of the following actions:

All selected elements appear in the Elements to upload area. (If you dragged the elements from your desktop to the element display area in step 2, the elements will already be listed.)

  1. If desired, in the Notes box, type any notes pertaining to the upload.

  2. Click Upload.

A progress bar in the Uploads & Downloads dialog box indicates the upload progress. If you selected Replace existing elements in step 4, any existing elements with the same names as those elements being uploaded are automatically overwritten.

If you did not select Replace existing elements, and there are existing elements in the project or library that have the same names as the elements being uploaded, all non-conflicting elements are uploaded first, and then the upload process pauses. The Uploads & Downloads dialog box appears, displaying an error message. (Note that the dialog box will also display messages for any other errors encountered during the upload other than element conflicts.) What do I do next?

Once the upload is complete, the uploaded elements appear in the specified folder within the project or library.
