Thermal2 Command
bbs power (preset|calibrate|on|off) [nocal]

Description Calculate the head power in "Preset", "Calibrate", "On" or "Off" mode.

In "Preset" mode, the head power is calculated based on the current state of the thermal head.

In "Calibrate" mode, all pixels are turned on in four groups and the head power is calculated. This mode is specifically optimized for the laser diode driver to calibrate the laser power.

In "On" mode, all pixels are turned on in four groups and the thermal head power is calculated while in "Off" mode, all pixels are turned off and thermal head power is calculated. The contrast ratio is determined from the ratio of the power with all pixels off and all pixels on.

In "Preset" and "Off" modes, the automatic beam-balance sensor configuration provides the most resolution by using a high gain. In "Calibrate" and "On" modes, the automatic beam-balance sensor configuration sets one of the four pixel groups of the stroke to provide a pixel power of 1000 counts at the configured pixel levels. If required ( for development purposes only ), the automatic beam-balance sensor configuration can be disabled by the optional token nocal. Note that the sensor selection will always be set for low gain by the beam-balance.

Note that the head power will close the shutter. However, the head power will not configure the laser diode driver, beam-pointing driver or light valve driver.

The NVS parameter bbs powerfactor <index> is used to convert the raw samples into watts.

Notes Thermal 1.0 / 1.7x equivalents:
  • The monitor command bbs power preset [nocal] is equivalent to head power.
  • The monitor command bbs power calibrate [nocal] does not have an equivalent.
  • The monitor command bbs power on [nocal] is equivalent to head power full.
  • The monitor command bbs power off [nocal] is equivalent to head power off.
