The sensor mode determines the implementation of the beam-pointing control loop.

| If the sensor mode is zero ( or "Normal" ), the PSD sensor controls the centroid position of the write laser(s) and the differential beam-pointing sensor controls the differential position of the write laser(s).
|

| If the sensor mode is one ( or "Differential" ), the differential beam-pointing sensor controls both the centroid position and the differential position of the write laser(s).
|
|
| If the sensor mode is two ( or "PSD" ), the PSD sensor controls the centroid position of a single write laser. Note that only a single write laser is supported by this sensor mode.
