Dolev 4press - Assemblies
Static Optic

LDR (Laser Driver)

Inside the Static Optics Assembly. Controls the laser diode operations. Receives commands from the HOMC.

ND Filter Motor

Inside the Static Optics Assembly. Operates the ND Filter (knife).

Fiber Links and Connectors

Laser light is transmitted using various fiber optics cables and connectors:

Location and Description

Fiber Optic Cables Three (3) single mode laser optic fiber cables. Transfer light from the laser diode to the Pentaprism:

  1. Static Optics Assembly internal to external connector.
  2. From Static Optics to Dynamic Optics Assembly. (Replaceable)
  3. Dynamic Optics Assembly internal to Pentaprism.

Adapters Two (2) fiber optics cable adapters:

  1. At Static Optics Assembly external.
  2. At Dynamic Optics Assembly external.

Connectors Four (4) self-locking connectors with built-in shutters.

Optics Assemblies

Static Optics Assembly At right rear of Imagesetter drum. Controls the laser diode, amplifying laser optical power and emitting the laser beam. Outgoing light is regulated by a mechanical knife (called the ND Filter) before it enters the fiber optics cable for transmission to the Dynamic Optics Assembly.

The Static Optics Assembly receives a digital signal (laser light off/on) and 2 analog signals (laser light power) from the HOMC. It returns laser light power level data to the HOMC.

The Assembly features independent protection circuitry to guard against laser over-power and over-current conditions.

ND Filter Graph

To check the optical path in the plotter, enter utilities and activate the ND Filter Graph utility.

The Dolev's ND Filter Graph should look similar to the that shown in the following figure.

The actual graph may be slightly smaller or shifted left or right in the MOTOR STEPS axis but the intensity should always be greater than 40000.

insert graph from visio.

Possible errors:

The graph is less than 40000. Check with the customer, what are his usual intensities. If they are in the range of 10000 units from the graph's maximum level replace the static optic.
The graph is greater than 40000 but is a horizontal line. Check the DC Motor Driver. This card drives the ND Filter Motor.

Disassembly & Assembly

Disassembly

  1. Power off the Imagesetter.
  2. Disconnect the flat cable from the static optic.
  3. Disconnect the fiber cable from the static optics
  4. Remove the two screws that attached the static optics to the drum and remove the static optic.

Asssembly

  1. Make sure that the Imagesetter is powered off.
  2. Attach the static optic to the drum using the two screws.
  3. Connect the Fiber optic cable.
  4. Connect the flat cable to the static optics.
  5. Power on the Imagesetter.
  6. Using the service utilities run the NDF graph and make sure that the optics is okay.
