Description

The Dolev 4press improvement kit improves machine reliability.

  1. Reason For Change

This kit improves loading and unloading reliability, eliminates the hard drive, helps prevent film crash, and resolves the missing parameters issue.

  2. Description of Change

    The kit contains:

    • New rocker assembly
    • Improved bow for machines without bar punch on the dynamic optics
Note: If bar punch is installed, order the bow for bar punch (291B2G949A) or bow for 4news with tail punch (292B8L657).
    • CPU 486 + DOC
    • New Rocker springs
    • Improved front inner support
    • Improved film guide - front inner
    • S/W version 9.067
    • Cutter

    Improvements:

    1. The new rocker assembly is stronger and does not bend when the door is closed, even if it will start the movement on one side. The film encoder does not touch the film and does not force it on the guide. The roller drives the encoder as on the unloading roller. This makes pulse counting more accurate and reduces the "attach film crash" problem.
    2. The improved bow was designed to slide on the film in case of film crash. This movement places the film back on the drum in case of a crash and does not pull the film. Another improvement is for 7 mil film or for polyester plates.  The new bow does not scratch the film during the service movement at the end of exposure while the film is advanced during the carriage movement.
    3. CPU 486 + DOC replaces the hard drive and improves the performance because there are no moving parts inside. The hard drive could become damaged when the loading drawer is closed and actually hitting the machine.
    4. The new rocker springs have better geometric shape and better material to give more accurate force to the rocker, and for a much longer time. Tests showed that the new springs have a 5 times longer lifetime and better forces accuracy compared to the old springs.
    5. The front inner support has 4 bearings instead of 3 in the old support. This structure rests better on the roller and provides proper support.
    6. The improved film guide is polished and has a better geometric shape to eliminate scratches.
    7. The new software version solves and improves performance. See the release note for more information.
  3. Change Procedure

Replace only parts that are problematic, using the known replacements procedures. Do not replace good parts.

    1. Before beginning the upgrade, to allow return to the previous settings in case of problems, record the following parameters manually:
      • Offset
      • Intensity tables
      • Motor parameters that are not at default values
(also non-default parameters from the RND200 table)
    2. Disassemble the rocker and then remove the front film guide.
    3. Disassemble the two springs and install the two new black springs.
    4. Install the new film guide.
    5. Install the new rocker. Open and close the rocker several times to assure smooth motion. At this time you should bend the end of the spring by 90 degrees to prevent it from coming off and from hitting the solenoid.
Note: If a bar punch is installed you will need to bend the slider in order to free space for the new position of the encoder.
    6. Disassemble the support of the front roller and install the new one. Adjust it so that the pressure on both sets of wheels feesl even.
    7. Replace the film cutter with the new one. Make sure that the cutter chain is in good shape.
    8. Move the dynamic optics to end position to remove the bow and install the new one.
    9. Install the CPU 486 following the guidelines below:
CPU 486 + Disk on chip installation instructions:

The CPU has the latest software version installed. If software installation is required, refer to the software installation procedure.

Note: Before removing the hard disk, make sure you have an Operation Panel 2. (The new 486 CPU requires a new operation panel) If you do not have Operation Panel 2, connect the VGA cable to the VGA port on the CPU, or order Operation Panel 2 (506C1L339).

CPU 486 and Disc on chip installation instructions continued:

    1. Save old parameters to a diskette (Select Setup > Save to Diskette).
    2. Turn the machine off.
    3. Remove the hard disk, the VGA and the CPU boards.
    4. Install the new CPU 486 in the slot of the previous CPU and the bracket with the 2 connectors attaches instead of the VGA board. Make sure that the flat cable for the floppy disk connects to the inner connector of the CPU board.
    5. Connect the connectors that were unplugged from the E-box, one to the panel and the other one to COM2 port.
    6. Turn the power on. The machine reboots.
    7. Retrieve the parameters from the rescue diskette. Verify that the parameters are correct by comparing to the manual record you made in the beginning of the upgrade.
S/W installation.

This procedure applies when the software has to be loaded on the CPU:

  1. Insert the latest software version and press the reset button on the operation panel. When the software finishes loading it displays A:Insert Diagnostic Diskette and reboot.
  2. After the diagnostics finishes loading, remove the floppy and press reset.
  3. Test Procedure

Run the machine and verify that it is working properly.
