The following Troubleshooting Tips were written in STA. Or Feedback to Rafi Elkayam of STE will be appreciated:
This problem can be very complicate and your feedback and help could help us to avoid parts replacement and days of working !!
1. FAST POWER CONVERTER failure:
The Fast Power Converter provides 36
Volts-DC to the Brushless Driver :
When 36V-DC fails, the green LED labeled VB on the Fast Power Converter board will turn
off. The left and the right LED's on the Brushless Driver will also turn off.
When sending a plot, the spinner will not rotate at all and the following messages will appear during the prepare plot:
Troubleshooting tips: Check the two "Pico" fuses F1 and F2 (two miniature removable 7 amp fuses) on the Fast Converter Board - Replace fuses if necessary - If it does not help, replace the board.
Comment: The fuses are standard "Pico" fuses and can be purchased at most electronic stores. If fuse is unavailable you can remove a wire from a regular 7 amp fuse and solder it in place of the "Pico" fuse.
2. BRUSHLESS Spinner Driver failure:
Most of the failures on the Brushless
Spinner Driver will cause spinner rotation problems.
When sending a plot, the spinner will rotate and stop, or will not rotate at all and the
following three messages will appear during prepare plot:
Troubleshooting tips: Watch the left LED on the "BRUSHLESS" board - when the spinner starts to rotate, the LED is "off" - than, after a few seconds when it receives the command to rotate from the OMC, the LED is back "on" - this means that the OMC is good but there is a problem in the Brushless Driver. - Replace the Brushless Driver Board.
3. Spinner Motor Cable or "Hall" Sensor failure:
When sending a plot the spinner will not rotate and the following messages will appear during prepare plot:
Troubleshooting tips: This failure will be characterized by the second LED (from the right) on the Brushless Driver Board that will turn "on" (in addition to the left and right LED's which are normally "on"). The above indication shows a "loss of commutation signals". The most likely reason for this condition is the spinner cable.
4. Encoder cable or Index signal failure:
Troubleshooting tips: Replace encoder cable. If it doesn't help - each one of the following can affect the encoder timing signals: 1) Spinner Driver (Brushless), 2) Fast HOMC, 3) Fast Strobe, 4) CRI, 5) Spinner.
5. Encoder cable or Encoder ClocK signal failure:
When sending a plot, the spinner will rotate and pass over the right speed but due to the missing Enc_Ck pulses the H/W will shut off the spinner. The following messages will appear during prepare plot:
Troubleshooting tips: Replace encoder cable. If it doesn't help - each one of the following can affect the encoder timing signals: 1) Spinner Driver (Brushless), 2) Fast HOMC2, 3) Fast Strobe, 4) CRI, 5) Spinner.
6. Fast Standard controller:
The symptom :" Carriage is not moving ", " Encoder frame err " and the spinner is not rotating !!
We found that one of the pins in the connector of the small internal spinner cable that is connected to the M.B (behind the spinner brushless) was disconnected !!!.
