- Make sure that the USB ports are not disabled on the workstation.
Older workstations were shipped with USB disabled although there is a physical USB port on the workstation. To enable the USB port, see Dell Hardware Config - Enabling USB ports.
- Some Dell computers including Latitude laptops do not recognize the dongle using the default port mode of ECP (Extended Capabilities Port).
In the BIOS, check to see if the parallel port mode is ECP. If it is, do the following:
- Change the parallel port mode to either PS/2 or AT.
- Save the applied changes and reboot.
- If this is the problem, you must un-install and re-install the dongle and CFL software as follows:
- In Add/Remove Programs, remove Service Dongle Manager (SDM) and/or Creo Feature Licensing Server (CFL Server).
- Remove the Sentinel System Driver … to uninstall everything.
- Reinstall the SDM and/or CFL Server software.
This automatically re-installs the Sentinel System Driver.
- The dongle should now be recognized.
- In the BIOS on a Dell GX400 or similar PC, make sure that the USB Emulation and USB Controller settings are both set to ON. This enbales the GX400 to recognize the USB dongle.
- If you suspect that the dongle or the USB port on the computer have failed, you may want to swap in different dongles, and/or try different USB ports and/or different computers, to verify that the dongle and the USB port are functioning correctly.
