External chiller (grey PolyScience units only)

Symptoms

Problems with control over the chiller.

Causes and Solutions

On the recent version of the PolyScience chiller, which is a grey model rather than black, there is an error in the interface connector on the back. The interface has a cable detect that signals the device firmware to turn the coolant pump and the compressor on/off, but some chillers have the incorrect interface installed. The following workaround will fix the cable detect and give some control over the chiller.

  1. Turn off the output device and unplug the chiller from AC power.
  2. Remove the 3 screws that hold the interface/power panel on the back of the unit.
  3. Locate the jumper between pins 2 and 3. Cut it with wire cutters and leave the black wire connected to pin 2.
  4. Solder a jumper between pins 1 and 9.
  5. If you don't want to do any soldering, cut the jumper between pins 2 and 3 on the back of the 15-pin connector. Use the command mask to find the cable detect for the chiller (#25 on the Trendsetter VLF), and mask the cable detect. Leave the black wires between the back of the 15-pin connector and the front panel of the chiller. Save the mask using the command nvs save status 1.

Note:  It is important to cut the jumper wire between pins 2 & 3.

  6. Plug everything back in.
