Symptoms

When you enter a license key, an Unknown format message appears.

Cause

There two potential causes of this problem:

Cause 1: Only part of the license key has been entered. See Solution 1.

Cause 2: The file containing the license key was not saved with UTF-8 encoding. This may occur if, for example, you copied the license key from an e-mail message and pasted it into the Microsoft^® NotePad software, but did not select UTF-8 as the encoding type when you saved the file. Saving the license key file with any other type of encoding may corrupt the license key by adding extra characters. See Solution 2.

Solution

Solution 1: Make sure that the entire XML string for the license key is entered as shown in the following example:

Solution 2: When you save the license key to a text file from NotePad, from the Encoding list, select UTF-8.
