Lotem 400 Xpose - Backup and Restore

Product

Lotem® 400 Xpose

Background

This procedure describes how to create a full image of the Lotem 400 Xpose hard disk by backing up all applications, including customer-specific parameters, on a CD, and then restoring them from the CD to the hard disk.

Perform the backup and restore procedure after you have verified that the device is functioning to the customer's satisfaction, and after any significant changes to settings or parameters.

The purpose of the backup and restore procedure is to prevent the need to perform a cold start. Restoring is more error-proof than a cold start, and can save several hours of work.

Requirements

  • Lotem 400 Xpose equipped with CD writer (48x/24x/52x CD-RW, PN 607-00041)
  • Empty, write-enabled CD (PN 501V1P037)—included in accessory kit
  • Lotem Xpose Backup and Restore System floppy disk (PN 633-00188A)
Note: You can also download this file from TechPlanet on your hard disk, and then run it. The self-extracted file will automatically load on the empty, write-enabled floppy disk.

Procedure

Backup
  1. Insert the floppy disk.
  2. Turn on the PC.
  3. From the PC DOS 7.1 Startup menu, select Backup_system, and then wait.
  4. When the No CD/DVD disk in drive message appears, insert the empty write-enabled CD. Wait for the LED on the CD-ROM drive to stop flashing.
  5. Press Retry. You will wait 10-20 minutes minutes while all data on the hard disk is copied to the CD.
  6. Eject the floppy disk and the CD, and then write the following information on the CD:
    • Machine serial number
    • Customer name
    • Date
  7. Turn off the PC.
Restore

Perform the restore procedure in either of the following situations:

  • The hard disk is corrupted - Replace the hard disk, and then restore the data.
  • Windows® is corrupted - Restore the data to the same disk.
  1. Insert the floppy disk.
  2. Turn on the PC.
  3. When the PC DOS 7.1 Startup menu appears, insert the CD, and then select Restore.
It takes 10 to 20 minutes for the image to be copied from the CD to the hard disk.
  4. When the A:\GHOST> prompt appears, eject the CD and the floppy disk, and then restart the computer.
