Brisque and Timna Server Planned Maintenance

DAILY

  1. DISK USAGE
You must ensure that the file systems (dataVolumes) will never exceed over 95% capacity.
Brisque & Timna Users: Click on the arrow above File Info, then select Disk Info.
Exceeding 95% disk usage will dramatically reduce the performance of your Brisque or Timna and will increase the chance of data loss.

WEEKLY

  1. REBUILD DESKTOP & EMPTY TRASH
Brisque & Timna Users must do this at least every week, it may be required more often if disk activity is very high (i.e. large num-ber
of adding, creating and deleting files). This needs to be done on all the volumes via the Mac using the EtherShare Admin
(Helios) application. After installation you should find this in the Apple menu of your designated administration Mac.
Launch EtherShare Admin on the Mac and login as ro o t, password is r i p ro.
If the Volumes list is not immediately visible, go to the Lists menu and select Volumes.
Highlight all the user volume(s) by using the Mouse and Shift key.
Go to the Volume menu, then choose Empty Trash, and confirm OK when prompted if you wish to proceed.
Go to the Volume menu, then choose Rebuild Desktop, and confirm OK when prompted if you wish to proceed.
Failure to rebuild desktop and empty trash will result in a reduced performance of the Server and Brisque and may result in the loss
of files. Although it is not absolutely necessary, you may wish to request other Macusers to dismount any Brisque/Timna Volumes
while you do this, especially if you have been encountering problems.
  2. SHUTDOWN AND REBOOT
All Brisque & Timna Users should perform a System shutdown and reboot be every week. This will clear temporary files and thus
    improve the station’s performance.
    MONTHLY
  3. FILE SYSTEM CHECK
A file system check should be performed once a month, or more frequently if activity is high. This can be carried out as follows:

    Timna Users STEP 1:
Stop CreoScitex Application by selecting Clicking with the Mouse on the Exit · icon in the centre of the toolbar.
Login as root ( password r i p ro). This presents you with the # prompt that allows you to type in the Unix commands required.
    You must now terminate the Legato Networker Application that controls the backup utilities. Type in n s r _ s h u t d o w n, and you
will be asked Do you want to Continue [y], you should hit the Enter key to confirm and Lagato will shut down.

    Brisque Users STEP 1:
Stop CreoScitex Application by selecting Clicking with the Mouse on the Exit · icon in the centre of the toolbar.
Login as root ( password r i p ro). This presents you with the # prompt that allows you to type in the Unix commands required.

Brisque & Timna Users STEP 2:
When the prompt (#) returns, type in s c i s m i t, this will take you to the CreoScitex System Management Interface Tool. You should use
    the Arrow keys on the keyboard to move up and down the selections, and choose Communication and S e r v e r s, hit Enter;
then select E t h e r s h a re, hit Enter; then Stop the EtherShare Server, hit Enter; and when asked Are you sure? , hit Enter to
confirm. This will log off all the Macs, any Mac that has a server volume mounted on it’s desktop will get a message that the server
    has been shut down.

Return to the CreoScitex Admin main menu by using the F3 key – 3 times – and then select D e v i c e s, hit Enter; select
    D a t a
Vo l u m e s, hit Enter; select Check Data Volumes (fsck) and select All. Hit Enter on the A re you sure ? message.
This will complete a file system check on all the data volumes, the duration of this check will vary between 20 to 90 minutes
depending on the number of volumes in the configuration.
When complete you should see Command: OK in the top left of the display.
Return to console login by using the F10 key.
