Adjusting Drum Balance

This procedure requires two people.
One person needs to move the drum and hold it in place while the other operates the GUI.
The result of this procedure will be to modify two values in the registry.

Weight Detector Position and Weight Actuator Position

Step 1 - Find the Weight Detector Position

  1. Turn off power to the drum motor.

  2. Manually move the balance weights to the stoppers
on both sides of the drum.

  3. Use the GUI to open windows for the left and right weight detectors.
    Hardware/Drum System/Balance System/Left Balance System/Left Weight 1 Detector
    Hardware/Drum System/Balance System/Right Balance System/Right Weight 1 Detector

  4. Position the drum by hand so that the balance detector is centered between the stoppers.
    Hold the drum in place

  5. While holding the drum in place, press Clear Error and then Reset Latch for both detectors

Make sure that the status is now off for both weights.

  6. Release the drum and let it fall so that both
    weights have past the detector.

  7. Record the location seen in both detector windows.

  8. Repeat the steps 4 through 7 three times and calculate the mean result for both sides.
  9. Enter the mean result of the measurements between the right and left sides in the Balance System Registry. Do this from "Hardware/Drum System/Balance System/". Right click on " Balance System", then double click on "+Weight Actuator Configuration" Change the value for "Weight Detector Potision" with your result number.
Note: Position is spelled incorrectly in the software.

  10.

Step 2 - Find the Weight Actuator Position

  1. Open the Drum Motor window.

  2. Do "Drum Init" from the loading system menu. Cut the drum power allowing the drum to fall.
  3. Manually rotate the drum to an approximate. drum position of 700.

  4. Manually extend the weight locating arm on one side. Be sure that the extended arm is below the lower weight. Keep the arm extended and gently rotate the drum further until the weight rests against the extended arm.

  5. From the drum motor window, record the drum position. Allow the locating arm to retract and let go of the drum.
  6. Repeat this procedure for the other side of the drum and calculate the average drum position for the two sides.
  7. Enter the average drum position in "Weight Actuator Position"

Step 3 - Test the Results

The adjustment procedure is now complete. To test the results, double click on "Hardware/Drum System/Balance System/Balance System". Click on "Perform Balance" and check the location of the weights.

Weight locations should conform to FSB 98-0003 as follows

PLATE Thickness= 0.3 mm

Plate length Drum Circumference Plate width Drum axis Weight location (degrees) Weight location (degrees)
630 720 70 17
636 968 72 15
708 975 100 40
770 1030 125 62
784 1030 130 68
790 1030 132.5 70
800 1030 136 74

Change the plate in the cassette and Re-Do "Perform Balance" with each size plate you are using.
