Replacing the upper gripper actuator assembly

This procedure consists of three steps:

Remove the existing upper gripper actuator assembly:

Tools required

Procedure

  1. Verify that the gripper pins are not activated.
  2. Disconnect the supply of compressed air to the platesetter.
  3. Disconnect the two compressed air hoses connected to the air piston. (If they do not have a label attached, mark the hoses “in” and “out”.)
  4. Remove the detector cover.
  5. Disconnect the cables connecting to the end position and home position detectors of the upper loading gripper actuators.
  6. Disconnect the enable sensor cable from sensor on the gripper beam.
  7. Undo and remove the three screws from the left side of the platesetter. This will release the gripper actuator assembly from the housing bracket.
  8. Undo and remove the two screws (located near the air piston) connecting the unload gripper actuator assembly from the housing bracket.
  9. Place the unit on a work table.

Reinstall the existing upper gripper actuator assembly:

  1. Prior to reinstalling the upper gripper actuator assembly, make sure the area of the gripper assembly is clean and clear of any parts.
  2. Slide the upper gripper actuator assembly into the optomech.
  3. Check that the enable detector is correctly connected.
  4. Connect the air tubes to the air cylinder. Make sure that you connecting “in” and “out” tubes accordingly.
  5. Reconnect the Molex connector of the detector cable.
  6. Connect the compressed air supply to the platesetter.

Test the load gripper actuator assembly

  1. From within Lotem Controller, open the drum motor_dlg.
  2. Send the drum to the load gripper location (approx. " - 790") (Registry Loading System"Unload head gripper position").
  3. After the drum reaches this position, activate the load gripper valve and check that the actuator pins are in the middle of the head gripper groove.
  4. Power off at the drum motor_dlg (within Lotem Controller),read the position parameter on the motor_dlg and check if it is diffrent from the parameter of that in the registry.
  5. Perform a loading and exposure sequence to verify that the loading/unloading process is working correctly.
