Adjusting X-in-Drum and X-in-Drum-Final Parameters

Prepared By: Boris Gendelsman
Date: 14 March 2002

 Description

The X in Drum and X in Drum Final parameters are adjusted to ensure that the plate mounts the drum correctly.
The following procedure describes how to adjust the X in Drum parameter to bring the plate within 2 mm of the Drum Pin, and the X in Drum Final parameter to attach the plate to the Drum Pin.

Adjusting the X in Drum Parameter

  1. Set X in Drum Final parameter to 0.
Select Hardware > Loading System > Loading System Setup.

  2. Activate Ask Before Do for the sequence From Drum Entry To Drum Task Cnf.
Select Hardware > Loading System > Loading System.
Double-click From Drum Entry To Drum Task Cnf.
Change the Ask Before Do value from 0 to 1.

  3. In the Loading System dialog box, click the From Drum to Drum (c) button.
Select Hardware > Loading System > Loading System.

  4. Begin the loading sequence. The XY bar brings the plate toward the drum.

  5. Check the position of the plate in relation to the Spiral Punch Pin. The plate should be almost touching the Spiral Punch Pin on the Drum, 1-2 mm from the Spiral Punch Pin. If the plate is in the correct position, proceed to The X in Drum Final Parameter.
Open the rear door from the application, and manually turn the drum.
Check the fitting of the plate in the head gripper, and check whether the Spiral Punch Pin on the drum is centered in the spiral punch hole on the plate

  6. If the plate is too far from the Spiral Punch Pin, perform the sequence again and stop after the "X in drum" message of the Ask Before Do.

  7. Move the X motor in steps of 1 mm until the plate reaches the required position, 1-2 mm from the Spiral Punch Pin and continue the loading sequence.
Hardware > Loading System > Loading Plate to Drum > X System > X Motor
Select Distance and decrease the value to bring the plate to the required position

  8. Repeat step 5.

  9. Reduce the X in Drum (mm) value in the registry by the value that equals the sum of the steps, and record the new value in the registry.
For example if X in Drum (mm) value was 18 and you moved 2 steps of 1 mm, the calculation for new value is
    18 - (1 + 1) = 16
    Hardware > Loading System
    Right-click Loading System.
    Double-click Loading System Setup .

The X in Drum Final Parameter

  1. Perform the plate loading sequence again.

  2. Activate Ask Before Do for the sequence From Drum Entry To Drum Task Cnf.
Select Hardware > Loading System > Loading System
Double-click From Drum Entry To Drum Task Cnf.
Change the Ask Before Do value from 0 to 1.

  3. In the Loading System dialog box, click the From Drum to Drum (c) button.
Select Hardware > Loading System > Loading System.

  4. Stop the loading sequence after the "X in Drum Final" message of the Ask Before Do.

  5. To bring the plate onto the Drum Pins, move the X Motor in steps of 1 mm until the Suction Cups begin to bend. The distance should be a negative value.
Select Hardware > Loading System > Loading Plate to Drum > X System > X Motor.
Select Distance and decrease the value to bring the plate onto the Drum Pin.
For example: If "X in Drum Final" equals 0, enter -2 or -3 in the registry to bring the plate closer to the Spiral Punch Pin.

  6. When the Suction Cups begin to bend, add 2-3 mm to the Distance value to insure repeatability.

  7. Record the value that equals the sum distance of the steps performed in X in Drum Final (mm) in the registry. For example, if the suction cups started to bend when the value was -4, the calculation for X in Drum Final is -4 + (- 2) = -6 or -4 + (- 3) = -7
    Hardware > Loading System
    right-click Loading System
    Double-click Setup

Note: Follow the same procedure for plates of different thicknesses, with the following difference:

Test

  1. Check the adjustments you made by opening the back door of the machine from the application and visually checking that the Spiral Punch Pin is centered in the punch notch with no extra room. Make sure that the edges around the punch notch are not bent.
  2. Load and expose a few plates and check the results.
