Checking the Loading (XY-System) Vacuum Pump

Boris Gendelsman
10-Jan-02

Description
This procedure should be used whenever you want to check the loading (XY - system) vacuum pump.
Before performing this procedure make sure that you have all necessary parts.
You can find the necessary parts in 293A6B677 kit. Kit contents:

  1. Vacuum gauge by ACCU-AIRE with resolution of 0.02 bars,
(this gauge has been tested for accuracy). (See picture below).
  2. T - shaped tube fitting with 6 (mm) plug model 8-6
(Two entrees of 8 (mm) and one exit of 6 (mm)) P/N 344D58010 (See picture below).
  3. 6 (mm) plug P/N 344B57005

  1. Step 1
Shutdown the Lotem by using main power switch.
    • Open rear panel of the Lotem
    • By using scissors or sharp knife cut the main vacuum tube (from the loading vacuum pump to the vacuum manifold of loading system) (See picture below).
    • Install T - shaped tube fitting with plug.

  2. Step 2
    Power up the Lotem
    1. Remove the plug and connect the vacuum gauge tube instead.
    2. Activate the vacuum pump from the GUI and make sure the tube is connected correctly and does not leak.

Vacuum pressure should be read at least 2 minutes after pump has been started and dial reading is stable. Make sure that the dial is VERTICAL.
    Vacuum pressure should be:

    • 0.88 bars minimum for both pumps (new type and old type).
    • Important: verify that all solenoids (small plate solenoid and large plate solenoid)
      are closed during the test.

Should the vacuum readings fail to conform to this specification, check:

All tubes and connections going from pump to XY bar and to suction cups. Look for leaks, bad connections, cracked tubes or leaking manifold.

    Pump performance.
    - Check pump filter.
    - Measure supply voltage (on connector to the pump) at Distribution box.
Voltage should be 208V (phase to phase).
If those are O.K. you need to change the pump.

If reading is above 0.94 bars (on new type and old type pumps), clean suction cups or check for other clogging in the system.

    1. Stop the vacuum pump, disconnect the vacuum gauge and reconnect the plug.

  3. Step 3
    1. Perform loading and unloading from all plate sizes and thickness of the customer.
    2. Make sure that there is no vacuum leakage from T - shaped tube fitting with plug during pump operation.
    3. Close the rear panel.
