Resolving the problem of images not being correctly exposed onto plates

Product

Kodak Lotem 800 platesetter

Symptoms

  • Images are not exposed onto plates.
  • Laser lines randomly appear on an exposed plate instead of an image.

Cause

  • If laser lines appear on an exposed plate—instead of an image—some of the laser diodes have failed.
  • If neither an image nor laser lines appear on an exposed plate, all the laser diodes have failed.

Solution

Perform the following diagnostics in the order that they appear.

  1. Physically check that 12 V and 5 V are both distributed from the L-box, and then run the diagnostics.
  2. Ensure that the L-box motherboard connector pins are intact.
  3. Perform laser calibration.
  4. In Kodak Lotem Controller, download the DDB card’s firmware.
  5. Replace the DDB card.
  6. Replace the L-box motherboard.
  7. Ensure that the registry parameters are set to either VLSI or TSP.
  8. Perform laser uniformity.
