FM screening: Preventing the exposure of a crooked image on a Lotem 800 V2

Product

Lotem® 800 V2

Symptoms

To expose a better quality FM screening on a Lotem 800 V2 platesetter, the Lotem platesetter automatically transfers from 48-diode mode to 24-diode mode. The adjustment between the diode modes produces an image that is slightly crooked in relation to the plate.

Cause

The FM screened image is slightly crooked because of registration problems caused by inaccurate spiral punch adjustment.

Solution

When adjusting the spiral punch to accommodate different diode modes, compare the distances between the left and right sides of the plate and their respective registration marks. If required, make the following adjustments:

  • Left side alignment: When switching between 48 and 24 diodes, make sure that the difference between the distance to the registration mark is no greater than 200 microns between the modes.
  • Right side alignment: When switching between 48 and 24 diodes, make sure that the distance to the registration mark remains the same.

Example:

48 diodes

  • Distance between the left side alignment and registration mark is 39.9 mm
  • Distance between the right side alignment and registration mark is 40 mm

24 diodes

  • Distance between the left side alignment and registration mark should not be greater than 40.1 mm (39.9 + 200 microns).
  • Distance between the right side alignment and registration mark should be 40 mm
