Preventing the exposure of a skewed image on a Lotem 800 platesetter

Product

Lotem® 800

Symptoms

  • Exposed images are often skewed (usually toward the side closer to the plate edge).
  • Plate does not consistently mount on spiral drum pin.
  • When checking/adjusting the plate loading onto the drum, all adjustments appear to be in correct alignment.
  • Spiral punch requires frequent adjustment.

Cause

The XY system chain rubs against the inside top cover of the platesetter. This causes the XY frame to shift left and right as the plate travels from the cassette to the spiral drum pin.
The shifting motion causes erratic positioning and often the plate will be misaligned with the spiral drum pin.

Solution

  1. Using a Phillips® screwdriver, loosen all the screws securing the XY system chain:

  2. Slightly readjust the position of the screws so that the chain will not come into contact with the top cover.
  3. Tighten the screws.
