Field Change Order #28852—Proof unloading arm EP/HP detector bracket for Lotem 800 with Spectrum

Applies to

  • Lotem™ 800 Spectrum
  • Lotem 800 Quantum Spectrum

Release date = 16 Jun 2002
Type of change = Mandatory

Machines affected

All Lotem 800 Spectrum machines that have PC controller software version 3.50.06 or later installed.

Component

  EP/HP detector bracket

Problem

In PC controller software version 3.50.06 and later, changes have been made to improve synchronization between the movement of the drum and the proof unloading arm during the unloading sequence. To complement these changes, the unloading arm EP (end position) and HP (home position) detectors need to be repositioned.

Solution

Installation of a slightly larger unloading arm EP/HP detector bracket (P/N 290A2S563A). After the bracket is installed, the EP/HP flag must be adjusted.

Time needed to implement

1 hour

Procedure

This procedure includes the following steps:

  1. Installing the EP/HP detector bracket
  2. Adjusting the EP/HP detector flag
  3. Testing functionality

Installing the EP/HP detector bracket

  1. Open the rear door of the Lotem.
  2. Unplug the EP and HP detector connectors (shown below).
  3. Remove the two Allen™ screws that secure the detector bracket to the unloading bar assembly and remove the bracket from the machine.
  4. Remove the Allen screw that secures the HP detector to the bracket, and remove the Allen screw that secures the EP to the bracket.
  5. Secure the EP and the HP detectors to the larger bracket (P/N 290A2S563A) using the two screws that you removed in step 4.
  6. Secure the larger bracket to the unloading bar assembly using the two screws removed in step 3.
  7. Connect the EP detector connector to the EP detector ,and connect the HP detector connector to the HP detector.
Note: The HP detector is the lower one.

Adjusting the EP/HP detector flag

  1. Leave the rear door open and load the carrier onto the drum (use cheaters, as required).
  2. Verify that the proof unloading arm is in HP.
  3. Place one of the 3 mm jigs on the far right of the unloading arm, as follows:
    1. Position the jig over the far right (toward the end) of the proof unloading arm as shown in the picture below.
Note: Ensure that the jig is positioned far enough toward the end of the proof unloading arm that it does not cover any suction cups.
    2. Move the jig downward so that the lip fits onto the proof unloading arm.
    3. Slide the jig toward the center of the machine until it covers the outermost suction cups.
Note: Ensure that the outermost suction cup (the first one) is completely covered by the jig, as shown below.
  4. Place the other 3 mm jig on the far left of the proof unloading arm, as described in step 3.
  5. In the PC controller, activate the proof unloading valve. The proof unloading arm moves upward to the end position (EP).
  6. In the PC controller, access the following dialog boxes:
  7. Loosen the two EP/HP flag setscrews on the flag unit (shown below).
  8. Manually rotate the flag unit until the status of the Proof Unloading End Pos Detector toggles to ON.
  9. Manually rotate the flag unit until the status of the Proof Unloading End Pos Detector toggles to OFF. The moment it toggles to OFF, hold the flag unit still and tighten the two EP/HP flag setscrews.
  10. Deactivate the proof unloading valve. The proof unloading arm moves downward to the HP.
Note: The status of the Proof Unloading Home Pos Detector should be ON.
  11. Remove the two 3 mm jigs from the proof unloading arm.
  12. Place the two 1 mm jigs on the unloading arm as described in steps 3 and 4.
  13. Activate the proof unloading valve. The proof unloading arm moves to the EP, and the Proof Unloading End Pos Detector status should toggle to ON. If it does not, put the 3 mm jig back on the unloading arm, return to step 7 and repeat the process.
  14. Deactivate the proof unloading valve and remove the jigs.
  15. Activate and deactivate the proof unloading valve three or more times and verify that:
    • When the valve is activated, the proof unloading arm is in the EP, and:
      • The status of the HP detector is OFF.
      • The status of the EP detector is ON.
    • When the valve is deactivated, the proof unloading arm is in the HP, and:
      • the status of the HP detector is ON
      • the status of the EP detector is OFF

Testing functionality

  1. Leave the rear door open and, using cheaters, load a carrier and a receiver.
  2. Load and unload a donor. Repeat this step several times and verify that the unloading sequence is smooth and correct.
    • If the following error message appears, repeat the entire adjustment process, as described in Adjusting the EP/HP detector flag, and test functionality again:
      • "The proof unloading arm end position detector still stayed at ON state X milliseconds after the arm was retracted".
    • If the error message appears again, change the value for the 'Time To Wait For Proof Unload Arm EP Detector (mSec)' parameter (default=500), as follows:
      • Increase the current value by 100, and repeat the test procedure.
      • If the error message appears again, increase the current value again by 100, and repeat the test procedure.
      • Continue increasing the value by 100 until the unloading sequence can be completed without the error message appearing.
Note: The maximum allowable value for this parameter is 1000. Do not enter a value of more than 1000.
  3. Remove all cheaters and close all doors.
