bbs shutter does not close on Lotem Quantum

Product

  • Lotem™ 800 Quantum
  • Lotem 850 Quantum
  • Lotem 400 Quantum
  • Lotem Quantum Spectrum

Component

Thermal 2 Head

Error

The TH2>> bbs shutter open command opens the sensor shutter, but the TH2>> bbs shutter close command does not close the shutter.

Symptoms

Job failed to expose.

Cause

The host can open the shutter, unless there is a safety fault, but it does not keep the shutter closed. The host controls the shutter during imaging. When the shutter is closed during imaging, a retrace is indicated. The timing requirements are such that a re-trace must be driven from the hardware line. In addition, the host knows when it has finished imaging. The head, which does not know when the host has finished imaging, receives this information via the various shutdown messages sent on the slow serial link.
The host must close the shutter to avoid damage that may occur from light leakage. There is no sensor that indicates the actual state of the shutter. The shutter positioning system is an open loop, bi-stable two-position motor. If the actual state of the shutter is questionable and contradicts the firmware assessment, use the write laser beam and the shutter light sensor output to clarify.

Solution

The steps listed below represent four possible solutions, and should be performed in the order in which they appear. For example, if step 1 does not solve the problem, perform step 2, and so on, until the problem is solved.

Do one of the following:

  1. Debug the shutter.
  2. Replace the TMCE board.
  3. Replace the TH2 power cable to the head.
  4. Replace the power supply.
  5. Replace the TH2 head.

Note: In one case, when replacing the TH2 power cable, the TMCE 12 V on the cable was missing, causing the above error.
