Symptoms

Edge detection problem
Note: This document describes one specific problem and its solution. The same symptom can also appear for a completely different problem.

Cause

The image moves 50 to 300 microns from side-to-side on the plate along the drum.

Solution

Run the EdgeMCE script from Splot version 3.64 to find a graph of the edge-of-the-plate profile. The script reveals how sharp the edge of the plate is cut, as shown in the following examples:

Good edge	Bad edge

Note: The above examples demonstrate the necessity for installing a modem with the Quantum machines (enabling the Response Center to dial in and help if necessary).
