Lead screw and stepper motor coupling adjustment

Product

  • ThermoFlex Mid
  • ThermoFlex Narrow

Background

To improve screen quality the lead screw to stepper motor coupling should be adjusted for optimal flexibility. Currently the rubber damper (blue rubber damper) is being forced by a pressure of 1.5 mm, which is too great for the ThermoFlex application, and should be reduced to a pressure of 0.5 mm.

Procedure

The following procedure adjusts the pressure to 0.5 mm, assuming the thickness of the rubber damper is 7 mm:

  1. Measure the distance ("x") between the lead screw damper adapter and the edge of the bearing housing, as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1

  1. Adjust the position of the motor damper adapter, then make sure the damper is pressed no more than 0.5 mm. Calculate the position according to the formula: X-0.5 (7 mm-0.5 mm = 6.5 mm), as shown in Figure 2.

Figure 2

The adjusted lead screw and stepper motor coupling is shown below in Figure 3.

Figure 3

  1. Assemble the motor and damper. Make sure the damper is positioned between the two adapters.
