Component

Suction cup leg bearing

Symptoms

When the XY loading assembly bar transports the plate to the drum:

  • Misregistration on the plate occurs
  • The suctions cups are not properly aligned
  • The plate skews and does not load onto the drum

Cause

During the plate-picking stage of the loading sequence, the vertical orientation of one of the suction cups is skewed because a suction cup leg bearing is loosely seated in the XY loading assembly bar.

Solution

Replace the faulty suction cup leg bearing with a suction cup leg bearing for loading system (part number 518-02422A).

Removing a faulty suction cup leg bearing

  1. On the platesetter, open the front door.
  2. Manually move the XY loading assembly bar to enable easy access.

  3. Remove the three screws that secure the XY bar top cover to the XY loading assembly bar and remove the XY bar top cover. (The third screw—not shown—is located near the right end of the XY bar top cover.)

  4. Using a flat-head screwdriver, remove the suction cup tube.

  5. Remove the suction cup leg from the suction cup assembly.

  6. Remove the suction cup leg bearing from the XY loading assembly bar.

Installing a suction cup leg bearing for loading system

  1. On the XY loading assembly bar, insert the tip of a cutter into the leg bearing hole and by carefully twisting the cutter left and right, file the edges of the leg bearing hole until they are smooth.

  2. Remove the filings, and then wipe the area clean.
  3. Hammer the new leg bearing into the hole on the XY loading assembly bar.

  4. Verify that no fragments have broken off from the leg bearing.

  5. Reinstall the suction cup leg on the suction cup assembly.
  6. Reinstall the suction cup tube.
  7. Insert the three screws that secure the the XY bar top cover to the XY loading assembly bar and tighten.
