After installing FCO
512-00422 to upgrade from Kodak Service Shell 2.5 to version 2.6,
Service Shell does not start.
While trying to troubleshoot the problem, the operator/technician manually
runs the Service Shell Host Configuration Wizard, which changes the TCP/IP
network connection.
To date, as a result of running the Service Shell Host Configuration
Wizard, the following problems have been identified:
- The <Unauthenticated User> or MCEDevice (MCE CTP Controller
Electronics) icon disappears from the notification area located
at the far right of the taskbar.
- The hosts file sometimes disappears from the operating system's
WINNT\system32\drivers\etc folder.

Restoring the hosts File
Important: If the IP address of the MCE

TechPlanet or create a new hosts file, as described in the following procedure.
If the MCE address is different, the hosts file should reflect it.
- Open Windows Explorer and double-click the C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc
folder .
- In the C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc window, right-click and select
New > Text Document.
- In the Notepad, type the following text:
127.0.0.1 localhost
169.254.255.110 mce
- From the File menu, select Save, and then select Exit.
- Right-click the saved file and select Rename.
- Rename the file hosts.
- When the following message appears, click Yes.
Are you sure you want to change the name of this file?
- To verify that you have successfully configured the hosts file, start
the Magnus 400 Controller software. The software should start and the
Magnus 400 Controller workspace should appear in Ready mode.
Note: Before you start working with the Magnus
400 platesetter, verify that the network connection is MCEDevice (MCE
