MCE connection fails on Dell PE2900 workflow workstations

Product

  • Kodak® Magnus™ 400 Quantum
  • Kodak Magnus 800
  • Kodak Lotem® 800 II
  • Kodak Lotem 800 Quantum
  • Kodak Xpo™ software

Machines affected

Platesetter configurations with Dell® PE2900 workflow workstations

Component

Dell workflow workstation SCSI driver and board

Symptoms

During the exposure process, when a plate is not positioned correctly because of loading sequence failures or platesetter malfunction, a suspend error might occur.

After the SCSI data starts transferring from the workstation to the MCE board, the MCE board aborts the plot, the SCSI data transfer stops, and the MCE board stops responding.

When the MCE board stops responding, other side effects might occur, for example— the GUI stops responding.

Cause

A known problem in the Adaptec 39U320 SCSI board installed on the PE2900 workstation.

Solution

Replace the Adaptec 39U320 SCSI board with an Adaptec 39U160 SCSI board.

To update the 39U160 SCSI board driver on the Dell workflow workstation:

  1. Quit the Xpo software.
  2. Download 6.1.6300.100A14 and save it on the Xpo workflow workstation.
  3. Run the AHA39160_v6.1.6300.100A14.exe file and save the driver.
  4. On the desktop of the Xpo workflow workstation, right-click My Computer and select Properties.
  5. In the System Properties dialog box, select Hardware > Device Manager > SCSI and RAID Controllers.
  6. Right-click SCSI and select Properties.
  7. On the Driver tab in the SCSI Properties dialog box, select Update Driver.
  8. Select the Search for suitable driver check box and click Next.
  9. Select the Specify a location check box and clear the remaining check boxes.
  10. Locate the driver that you downloaded (in step 2) and click OK.

    The new driver is installed.

  11. Start the Xpo software.
