Backup and Restore Tool (BART)

The purpose of the Backup and Restore Utility (BART) is to allow service engineers to easily save and restore the operational parameters of an output device.

These parameters are regularly stored on the workstation - by the controller or the Service Shell, and on the device itself by firmware such as the MCE and thermal head.

BART is useful for periodic backups and the occasional recovery of device software and firmware.

The BART tool is composed of two tabs:

• Backup tab
• Restore tab

With this tool you can:

• Backup all or selective groups of device parameters to create a backup basket. (Both operator and service engineer)
• Restore a backup basket back to the controller and the device. (Service engineer only)
• View and compare existing backup baskets, and save to user specified locations and external media.

Accessing BART

1. Open Service Shell.
2. From the Tools menu (on the left side), click BART:
   
   
   
   

Backup Tab

• Select the content parameters to be backed up.
• Select the information components to be backed up.
• Add comments.
• Define a backup basket as Known Good.

Restore Tab

The Restore tab enables the service engineer to:

• Save a selected backup basket to a custom location.
• Compare backup content from two selected backup baskets.
• View the content of a selected backup basket.
• Add/remove the Known Good flag from a selected backup basket.
• Delete a selected backup basket.
• Restore a selected backup basket.
