Improvements implemented on Magnus 800 devices between beta and early production

This document describes the improvements that were implemented on the Magnus 800 devices between beta and early production (EP).

Multi-cassette autoloader

Autoloader service panel

Improvement: Service panel.

Advantage: Better access, reduced cost, one service panel instead of two service doors.

Autoloader safety switch

Improvement: The safety switch, formerly located inside the service door, has been repositioned.

Advantage: Better access, one switch as opposed to two switches.

Autoloader loading conveyor

Improvement: A folded detector has been implemented and the latch has been improved.

Advantage: The folded detector improves reliability and the latch is easier to adjust.
Note: The folded detector is now connected to the platesetter MSB, and appears in the hardware tree under Platesetter MSB. For beta machines compatibility see the software section.

Autoloader top covers’ safety switch

Improvement: The safety switches have been repositioned.

Advantage: Improves reliability.

Autoloader top cover located closest to paper disposal bin

Improvement: The door latches have been repositioned.

Advantage: Improves reliability.

Autoloader paper disposal door

Improvement: Stoppers have been implemented.

Advantage: Prevents the paper disposal door from being closed when the exit tray is raised.
Note: Not available on beta machines serial numbers M80011 to M80023.

Multi-cassettte unit

User door

Improvement: New cam followers and new belt tensioning mechanism

Advantage: Operates more smoothly.
Note: Not available on beta machines serial no. M80011 to M80023.

User door lock and safety switch

Improvement: Integrated lock and safety switch

Advantage: More reliable; reduced costs; one mechanism as opposed to two.
Note: For beta machines compatibility see the software section.

Procedure: To manually open the switch, release the safety screw and rotate the manual override screw half a turn in a clockwise direction.
To manually lock the switch, rotate the manual override screw half a turn in a counterclockwise direction, and then close the safety screw. The switch will not operate when it is in the manual override mode.

Cassette lockers

Note: The image above only depicts four out of the five cassette lockers

Improvement: New mechanism.

Advantage: More reliable and operates more smoothly.
Note: The MCU cassette lock will always be located on the right side, regardless of the configuration.
Not available on beta machines serial no. M80011 to M80023.

MCU electronic cabinet

Improvement: New power connection.

Advantage: CSA certification.

Elevator belt tensioning mechanism

Improvement: Stronger elevator belt tension springs and modified pulleys.

Advantage: Reliability.
Note: Backward compatible for beta units.

MCU installation check pins

Improvement: An installation check pins’ jig and hole has been added to the multi-cassette autoloader.

Advantage: Improves and facilitates the installation process.

Platesetter

Cooling system blower

Improvement: New cooling system blower.

Advantage: CSA certification; cost reduction; noise reduction.

Carriage motor mount

Improvement: Increased gap to enable the carriage to fully enter into the service position.

Advantage: Facilitates servicing.
Note: Not available on beta machines serial no. M80011 to M80023

Vacuum pump muffler (silencer)

Improvement: Added muffler.

Advantage: Reduces the level of vacuum pump noise.
Note: Not available on beta machines serial no. M80011 to M80023.

Park position stoppers

Improvement: Combined the LEC mount axis and park position stoppers.

Advantage: Reduced cost.
Note: Not available on beta machines serial no. M80011 to M80023.

Drum position jig

Improvement: Integrated pin-jig for locating the parking position and the encoder zero position.

Advantage: Facilitates servicing.
Note: Not available on beta machines serial no. M80011 to M80018. When replacing the encoder on old machines it is necessary to continue using the old jig.

Unloading platform belt rollers

Improvement: Each belt now has its own unloading platform belt roller.

Advantage: Facilitates servicing.
Note: Not available on beta machines serial no. M80011 to M80023.

Spring pin spring

Improvement: The spring pin spring is now weaker and therefore reduces the likelihood of damaging thin plates.

Advantage: Increased reliability.
Note: Backward compatible.

LEC body

Improvement: New LEC body. The new LEC body contact point is now at a tangent angle relative to the LEC actuator roller.

Advantage: Increased reliability. Combined the LEC mount axis and park position stoppers.
Note: Not available on beta machines serial no. M80011 to M80023.

TEC body

Improvement: New TEC body. The new TEC body is thicker (1.5 mm instead of 1.2 mm). Contact point is now at a tangent angle relative to the LEC actuator roller.

Advantage: Increased reliability.
Note: Backward compatible with beta machines.
Software: The following parameters have been amended:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Kodak\Magnus800\
Software systems\Balance system\TEC (Trailing Edge Clamps) Configuration

  • Trailing Edge Clamps Center Of Gravity Radius (mm) = 173
  • Trailing Edge Clamps Total Mass (gr) = 1290

Balance weights

Improvement: Replaced Teflon tape with Rulon tape.

Advantage: Increased reliability.
Note: Backward compatible with beta machines.
Software: The following parameters have been amended:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Kodak\Magnus800\
Software systems\Balance system\Weight Configuration

  • Balance Weight Center Of Gravity Radius (mm) = 97.3
  • Balance Weight Mass (gr) = 660

Shipping locks

The early production machines (from serial no. M80024) have additional shipping locks for the paper picker, plate picker, and drum roller. The feeding motor’s shipping lock has been modified.
The tables below describe the new and modified shipping locks.
