Recovering the machine license when installing Magnus Controller software version 1.02.402.004

Product

Magnus 800 platesetter

Symptoms

WhenMagnus Controller software version 1.02.402.004 is installed, the license.xml license file is erased from the featurelicensing folder (c:\creo\featurelicensing). This problem affects:

  • CDs with part number 651-00552A
  • Magnus 800 platesetters that were shipped before
April 23, 2006, and have machine serial numbers up to and including M80042
  • Reinstallations of Magnus Controller software version 1.02.402.004
Note: The license is erased when the computer is rebooted. Prior to rebooting, a copy of the license file is stored in the system cache. However, the rebooting process erases the system cache.

Cause

Magnus Controller software version 1.02.402.004 contains a bug in the setup program that erases the license file when the software is installed.

Solution

Before reinstalling Magnus Controller, perform the following actions:

  1. Locate the c:\creo\featurelicensing\database folder.
  2. Copy the license.xml file.
  3. Paste the license.xml file in an alternative folder.

To restore an erased license file, perform the following actions:

  1. Start the Creo License Manager software.
  2. From the File menu, select Open.
  3. Select the backup license file, and click Open.
Note: Every platesetter with a serial number of M80043 or later, contains a backup license in the c:\creo\featurelicensing folder*.
  4. After the license has loaded, reboot the computer and make sure that the license is working.

* If the license is missing from the featurelicensing folder, perform the following actions:

  1. Log on to the Kodak network.
  2. Browse to http://master.creo.com/cflwebgenerator/index.aspx.
  3. Perform a license search on either the platesetter serial number (M800xx), or the dongle serial number (Cxxxxx). The search will return a copy of the original license.
  4. Copy and paste the license file into a text file.
  5. Transfer the license file to the Magnus 800 platesetter and restore the license, as described above.

Important: The bug will be resolved in the next software release, Magnus Controller software version 1.04.404, which is due for release in June 2006.
