Checking and adjusting the plate picker’s position on a Magnus 800 autoloader

Product

Magnus 800 autoloader

Background

This procedure describes how to determine whether the plate picker is correctly positioned on a Magnus 800 autoloader.

In order for the plate picker to be correctly positioned, the plate picker bar must be parallel to the paper picker frame, and the plate picker suction cups must touch a plate 30 mm from the edge of the plate.

You must check the plate picker’s position when you replace a gear box, or if problems occur during plate loading process.

Requirements

Jig (690-00772A)

Procedure

Confirm that the plate picker bar is parallel to the paper picker frame

This procedure describes how to confirm that the two gear boxes on the plate picker arm are parallel with each other and that they are exactly 65 mm from the paper picker frame.

Perform this procedure on one gear box, and then repeat the procedure on the second gear box.

  1. Make sure the paper picker is in home position.
  2. Manually pull the plate picker arm toward the paper picker system.
  3. Insert the jig between the paper picker frame and the plate picker gear box. The length of the jig is 65 mm.

If there is too much or too little room between the jig and the gear box, perform the following actions:
    1. Slightly loosen the two screws that secure the gear box to the plate picker bar.

    2. Using the jig as a guide, adjust the position of the plate picker bar until the gear box is exactly 65 mm from the paper picker frame.

    3. Retighten the two screws securing the gear box to the plate picker bar.

Important: If the two gear boxes are correctly positioned (65 mm from the paper picker frame), the suction cups should be exactly 30 mm from the edge of the plate.

Confirm that the plate picker suction cups are 30 mm from the edge of the plate

This procedure describes how to confirm that the suction cups are 30 mm from the edge of the plate.

  1. On the non-emulsion side of a plate, draw a parallel line 30 mm from the edge of the plate.

  2. Place the plate inside the cassette tray.
  3. Manually lower the plate picker arm until the suction cups touch the plate. The outer edges of the suction cups should touch the 30 mm line.

If the suction cups fall too far from the edge of the plate or too close to the edge of the plate:
    1. Slightly loosen the four screws (two screws on each side) that secure the plate picker assembly to the plate picker arm.

    2. Manually position the plate picker arm so that the outer edges of the suction cups touch the 30 mm line.
    3. Make sure the two gear boxes are 65 mm from the paper picker frame.
    4. Remove the jig.
    5. Tighten the four screws.
