Balance Weights Not Found

Product

Magnus VLF

Component

Balance weight assembly

Symptoms

The system reports that one or more of the balance weights cannot be detected.

Cause

The balance weight sensor is not working properly.

Solution

To find out if the balance weight sensor is working, use the balancer find command. This command triggers a balance weight search algorithm which involves a drum move of almost 360 degrees. As the drum turns, the tabs attached to the two balance weights will interrupt the weight sensor and the firmware will record the position. The output of the balancer find command will look something like this:

f 04Feb03 10:27:41.031 <MCE> HOME side: Balance weight 1 pos: 159532
f 04Feb03 10:27:41.031 <MCE>            Balance weight 2 pos: 104200
f 04Feb03 10:27:41.046 <MCE> AWAY side: Balance weight 1 pos: 119457
f 04Feb03 10:27:41.062 <MCE>            Balance weight 2 pos: 234729

If the command does not find any of the balance weights, check to see if the drum actually moved. If it only finds the weights on one side (either home or away), then the balance weight sensor on the opposite side is probably broken. If it finds only one of the two weights on the home side (or only one of the two weights on the away side), there is probably something wrong with one of the balance weight tabs.

Note:  The number that is returned is the drum position where you can actuate the weight, not the position that the weight tab interrupted the sensor.
