When persistant registration errors are occuring, perform the following checks and adjustments:
- Check the load table alignment to the LEC/table front edge. Is the load table traveler parallel to drum/load position? Adjust the belts if needed (0.5 hrs)
- Check the belt tension on the load table traveler. Adjust if needed (0.25 hrs).
- Check the load table traveller does not rub the laser cover or any other panels during movement. Watch for contact with the front of the load table covers just before the home position - try checking all movements by hand to feel for resistance (0.5 hrs).
- Check the load table rails are in decent shape. Replace whole rails where applicable and/or repair with UHMW tape if possible. Clean if just dirty (1-2 hrs.
- Check the load table platestop up/down is functioning properly (fingers go up and down, no sensor timeouts) (0.5 hrs).
- Check the registration contact pin and contact pad assemblies for damage, misalignment, debris, corrosion, and wear. Replace if there is any significant wear, damage, or if corrosion is found on the pads or pins. If misalignment is witnessed, pay particular attention to the next step (1 hr).
- Check the alignment of the LEC backbone AND drum lock to drum 97 degrees. Adjust the backbone mechanical position if required (minimal movement is NEEDED). If there is significant movement seen, felt, or witnessed in FW, loosen the drum lock to check the actual alignment of the backbone to the LEC first. Once alignment is perfect/confirmed, set the drum lock to that position (1-2 hrs).
- Check the LEC gaps with the appropriate jigs (2.2 mm, 2.5 mm, and 2.8 mm LEC jigs)(0.5 hrs).
- Inspect and clean the registration blocks on the drum and edge detection strip if needed (0.25 hrs).
- Inspect the wiffle center pin play. To do so, remove the air from the system and rotate the center pin as it would during a plate load (standing at the front, grab the loose wiffle bar and twist in a front to back / up and down motion). Siginificant play in the wiffle pin and the wiffle pin hole will result in registration re-tries and allows for too much slop in the holding of the plate (0.5).
- Using the drum vacuum cleaning kit/tool, clean the drum vacuum holes (0.25 hrs).
If the registration problems still persist after doing the list of checks above, then do a thorough diagnosis of the cables from the spring contact pin area to the registration board in the power box.
- Disconnect the cable from the registration board in the power box.
- Jumper pin pairs post/pre the contact spring pins assembly and post/pre contact block assembly.
- Do a continuity check with them stationary and jumpered at all test locations available (including inside the contact block area).
- Repeat the same jumper tests in all locations with the backbone on a cycle test up and down, monitoring each line for intermittent breaks.
If the registration problems still persist, replace all of the load table rails.
