Field Change Order D275: Move Debris Hose

Applies to:    ThermoFlex Priority = Next visit
Reason = solve problem of hose popping out
Release date = 14 Dec, 1999
Machines affected All
Component Engine
Description Debris hose does not stay in the hose trough when the carriage returns to home following a large plot. Because the debris hose is much stiffer than the cooling hose flex conduit, and the present configuration has the bend of the debris hose lying inside the bend of the cooling hose flex conduit, the two tend to become crossed up, and together they are too wide to fall back into the hose trough.
Parts needed 1 of 50-1953A (ASSY,MECH,DEBRIS REMOVAL HOSE,FX1)
Procedure The solution is to reverse the positions of the debris hose and the cooling hose flex conduit (valid for both TFX and 1.7 heads).
Action Required
  • Disconnect the existing debris hose at the carriage (see figure below) and at the bulkhead fitting, and remove it.
  • Reposition the clamps holding the cooling hose flex conduit at the carriage, so that the flex conduit bend will be inside the bend of the debris hose.
  • Slide the new debris hose assembly (50-1953A) under the flex conduit in the hose trough, positioning the end with the woven expando sheathing towards the carriage.
  • Position the debris hose above (it was previously mounted below) the cooling hose flex conduit where they clamp to the bracket on the carriage. The cooling hoses should be effectively shorter than the debris hoses (the debris hose loop should be outside the cooling hose loop by 75mm).
  • Tie-wrap the cooling hose conduit and the debris hose together at the AWAY end of the hose trough, to ensure the cooling hose loop stays inside the debris loop.
  • Position the hose trough as close to the panel enclosure (HOME end) as possible to avoid the possibility of the debris hose loop catching the corner of the trough as the carriage moves away from the HOME position.
