Drum Vacuum Pump fan not running

Applies to

ThermoFlex

Machines affected

All

Error number

n/a

Component

Drum Vacuum Pump

Problem

The Drum Vacuum Pump (DVP) has an internal cooling fan to cool the pump motor. Failure of this fan could affect the operation of the DVP.

Symptoms

Fan not working.

Causes and
Solutions

No power is supplied to the fan

Possible causes:· Blown fuse,· faulty transformer,· Drum Vacuum Drive is incorrectly programmed - power not switched to the fan, capacitor blown.

Remove the DVP cover to access the Junction Box. Refer to the sticker (74-3246A) inside the junction box and inspect for any loose wiring.Unless otherwise stated, perform the following tests with the pump running:

  1. The voltage measured across the output of fuse L1 and fuse L2 must be between 360-480VAC (depending on site location). If there is no voltage present, a fuse(s) is blown. Turn off the power and replace the damaged fuse(s) (13-5009).
  2. Measure the input and output voltages of the transformer. If there is an input voltage but no output voltage, then the transformer is defective. Turn off the power and replace the damaged transformer (13-4987).
  3. Measure with a voltmeter across pins 1 and 2 of J4 on the Inverter Isolation Board.·
If there is no voltage, refer to the label inside the DVD cover (10-4142A) and check all wiring.·
If there is a voltage detected, but no voltage across pins 13 and 14 on J3, either the Inverter Drive is incorrectly programmed (programming shown below) or relay 11B on the Inverter Isolation Board is damaged. Contact the response center before attempting to repair the board.
  4. Turn off the power to the DVD and remove the DVD cover to access capacitor 13-4847. If the capacitor is blown, the motor will not work.
Remove the capacitor and test it with a multimeter - it should have a value of 3uF.
    Replace the capacitor if necessary.
Re-test the DVP to check that the fan operates.

Programming the Inverter drive:

  • Press the Local/Remote button followed by the Stop button.
  • Press the DSPL button on the Inverter Drive repeatedly until parameters appear on the display.
  • Scroll to n042 using the arrow keys. Press Enter.
  • Program the Inverter Drive until During running appears.
  • Press Enter to save settings.
  • Press the Local/Remote button.
