Heidenhain Encoder

Description | Parts | Photo |Procedures

Description

Measures the position and direction of motion of the drum. The speed is derived from the position information. The information from the encoder is used by the drum servo to control drum speed and by the imaging logic to synchronize image data with the plate position.

Note: This encoder is used in the Trendsetter 3244 (TS8 and TS3/8 Version), Trendsetter 3230 (TS4 Version), Trendsetter VLF, and VLF Platesetter. This encoder is mechanical rather than optical.

The encoder is assembled and aligned at the factory. It is mounted on a drum pin (see photo) using an encoder mounting adaptor that supports the encoder shaft in a bearing. The encoder shaft is fastened to the drum on threads and fastened to the encoder collar by two set screws.
