Sawtooth Pattern Appears on Offset Plate on ThermoFlex Narrow

Product

Kodak® ThermoFlex® Narrow With Offset Option

Component

Encoder index

Symptoms

Sawtooth pattern appears on image

Cause

The encoder index is not properly adjusted for offset plates.

Solution

Adjust the encoder index to enable offset plate support:

  1. With the platesetter in working mode, in ThermoFlex Controller, in the Hardware tree, open the following dialog boxes:
    • Loading System: Select Loading System > Loading System
    • Drum Motor: Select Drum System > Drum Motor
  2. In the Loading System dialog box, click Drum Init.

The drum rotates to position 0.00.
  3. In the Drum Motor dialog box, verify that the position is 0.00.
  4. Click Open Top Door, and then open the top door, the loading tray, the right side door and the right side panel.
Note: When you open the top door, the power to the drum stops. The drum may move and thus its position may change from 0.00.
  5. Lay the ruler over the beam and rotate the drum so that the edge of the ruler is touching the scribe line.

  1. In the Drum Motor dialog box, check and write down the Pos parameter value (position). (For example, Pos = -36.)
  2. On the right side of the platesetter, on the encoder coupling, loosen but do not remove the hex screw that secures the drum axle to the encoder.
  3. Rotate the drum axle -15 until the Pos parameter value in the Drum Motor dialog box is 15 less than the previous reading. (For example, -36 + -15 = -51.)
  4. Tighten the hex screw that secures the drum axle to the encoder.

Test

Repeat steps 5 and 6 and confirm that the Pos parameter value is the same as it was in step 8 after you rotated the drum axle.
