After dual-plate option is disabled, device still tries to pick from away side; generates error

Product

  Trendsetter® NEWS™ (TMCE and GMCE)

Component

  • TMCE or GMCE firmware
  • Print Console

Error

Print Console error:
invalid plate parameter (plateid=1)

Symptoms

The symptoms described in this section typically occur when the Trendsetter NEWS output device meets the following conditions.

  • The NEWS output device is configured to use dual broadsheet plates with single broadsheet imaging (that is, the ability to load one plate at a time from a dual stack, automatically alternating between stacks for each single broadsheet job submitted)
  • The dual-plate option is later disabled in firmware,
    and
  • the single-broadsheet option remains enabled.

Under the above circumstances, when the first broadsheet file is sent to the output device via Print Console, the picker’s home side vacuum generator turns on, and loads the first plate from the home side. For the second file, the picker’s away side vacuum generator turns on, and loads from the away side.

After the second broadsheet plate is loaded, Print Console displays the error
invalid plate parameter (plateid=1)
and the plate is ejected.

Cause

The dual-plate option was disabled, but the single-broadsheet option was still enabled. Currently, if the dual-plate option is disabled, the single-broadsheet option must also be disabled.

Solution

If the dual-plate option is disabled, ensure that the single-broadsheet option is also disabled.

  1. Enter command: access dev
  2. Disable the single-broadsheet option:
    option single-broadsheet disable

The main reason for having the dual-plate disable function is to meet the needs of customers who do not want to use the feature because their processing line cannot support dual broadsheet plate handling. For example, their processor or some other conveyor component may be set up with only one plate sensor detecting the home-side plate.
