TH2 error [00221] occurs on Trendsetter NEWS 200 with MCE controlled release V2.3

Products

  • Trendsetter NEWS 200
  • Thermal 2 exposure head

Machines affected

  • Trendsetter NEWS 200

Component

Trendsetter NEWS MCE Controlled Release Version 2.3:

  • MCE Main firmware 1.12.31
  • MCE Slave firmware 1.04.11

Error

[00221] Beam-Balance: The beam-balance sensor shutter could not be closed

Symptoms

Head error 00221 is generated.

Cause

This problem relates to the plot ending sequence. If the plate spacing is such that the Slave is still imaging after the Master has finished, there is a report of a head shutter problem, followed by a PLL error.

This is a known firmware bug and will be corrected in the next Trendsetter NEWS controlled release, MCE version 3.0.

Solution

Adjust the plate spacing to be within 445mm.

Note: There is a tolerance of one swath width, so if the plate spacing is within about 5mm of the head spacing, you will still be able to image dual plates.

On Panorama plates:
The problem will persist on panorama plates larger than 885mm (twice the head spacing, which is 442mm for NEWS 200). There is currently no workaround for panorama plates larger than 885mm.
