IMPORTANT: Some Trendsetter NEWS devices may require hardware upgrades (GENINE board, carriage drive amplifier, unload table pulley) before upgrading to Controlled Release 4.1. See Trendsetter NEWS Release Notes for MCE firmware version 1.30 for more information.
NOTE: You must install the version of Service Shell in this controlled release before downloading firmware in this controlled release.
Important Updates: After MCE Trendsetter NEWS CR 4.1 was released, issues were discovered that may require the following two updates: |
||||
| TH2 Firmware Downgrade from Version 1.05c to 1.04d
Thermal head firmware 1.05c, included in this controlled release, has a defect that can cause solid stripes to be plotted on plate (see Example 1 and Example 2). This defect occurs when 1.05c firmware is installed on a TH2 head with beam correction hardware. All new and some RMA heads are affected. Head hardware can be verified using the following firmware commands: redirect pass th2 eng th2 io read FFE0 1 The output will be the requested memory address followed by a four-digit hexadecimal number, for example: If the last character of the four-digit number (2 in this example) is equal to 2, 3, 6, 7, A, B, E, or F, the head has the beam correction hardware and action should be taken to downgrade to head firmware version 1.04d. If the last character of the four-digit number is equal to 0, 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, C, or D, the head does not have the beam correction hardware and will run firmware version 1.05c with no problems. This defect will be fixed in the thermal head firmware included with the next Trendsetter NEWS controlled release (5.0). In the meantime, if CR 4.1 is installed on any NEWS device with a TH2 head that has the beam correction hardware, TH2 firmware version 1.05c should be downgraded to 1.04d, using the following procedure:
This downgrade removes all features and fixes introduced by 1.05c. For a complete list of changes in 1.05c, see the release notes. Note that it is not necessary to downgrade host firmware or workstation software. |
