Field Change Order D547

Applies to
  • Trendsetter 3244 (TS3, TS8)
  • Trendsetter 3230 (TS4, TS8)
  • Thermoflex
  • Trendsetter/Proofsetter Spectrum (TS3, TS4, TS8)
  • Trendsetter 2637
Component
  • TEE board 10-3627C
Problem

The Motorola pressure sensors used on previous versions of the TEE board are being discontinued. The new TEE board uses the new MPX5000 series sensors, which have lower offset values than the older sensors.

Note: Version B and C boards have the same functionality - the reason for the version change is mostly because the board layout has changed for version C. See 10-3627C assembly drawing.

Solution

When replacing a previous version TEE board with the new "C" version, recalibrate the pressure sensors.

Note: To recalibrate the sensors accurately (and easily), you may need to upgrade the device firmware to a version that supports the cal pressure command (and, in the case of the Spectrum devices, the cal vac command). Also note that the latest firmware versions include support for the debris removal sensors on the new TEE board (debris removal is required for V-speed plating).

Procedure

Ensure that the output device is running at least the following firmware version:

Device Firmware Version
Proofsetter Spectrum 1.21
Thermoflex 1.21
Trendsetter Autoloader 1.20
Trendsetter 2637 (Newspaper) Any
Trendsetter 3230/3244 2.50b
Trendsetter Spectrum 3230 & 3244 1.21 (1.40 if device has a debris removal system)

After replacing the TEE board, set the SIO keyswitch to the Laser Hazards position, and use the following procedure to calibrate the pressure sensors:

  1. Enter command: cal pressure

The cal pressure routine performs an automatic calibration of the system pressure sensor, and then directs you though a short manual procedure to set the system pressure regulator.

When prompted by the instructions on the diagnostic monitor, perform the following steps:

  1. Turn off the air to the machine.
  2. Turn the air back on.
  3. Lower the system pressure to below 75 psi (85 psi for Autoloader) by turning the black knob on the regulator.
  4. Gradually increase system pressure to 80 psi (90 psi for Autoloader). The pressure readings on the diagnostic monitor are debounced for 3 seconds, so it is important that you increase the pressure very slowly and stop at the recommend psi setting. If you increase the pressure too much you will have to start again.
  1. Check the analog gauge on the regulator. It should read 80 psi (90 psi for Autoloader). If it does not, the analog gauge is likely faulty.

Additional Procedures for Spectrum, TS Autoloader, and TS 2637

If the output device is a Spectrum, calibrate the vacuum sensors, as described in the “Setting Drum Vacuum and Vacuum Roller Suction Thresholds” section of the Spectrum Trendsetter 3244 Common Startup Procedure .

If the device is a Trendsetter 2637 or Trendsetter Autoloader, set the picker vacuum threshold and the unload vacuum threshold to the correct values. For the 2637, you will also need to set the unload vacuum threshold dual parameter.
