Device fails drum initialization

Product

  • Trendsetter 400/800
  • Trendsetter NEWS

Component

15-3466 SERVOAMP/Main Drive Amp

Error

The device fails drum initialization, at times intermittently. You may receive a 6007: DRUM: Timeout on velocity settling error. Firmware may indicate that you should perform a drum cal procedure but this procedure is not available with this drum servo amp (15-3466).

Symptoms

  • All functions related to drum movement may produce errors resulting in a device that is incapable of loading/unloading and plotting.
  • You may see the drum oscillate back and forth when in a stationary state.
  • The device may only fail occasionally and resume functioning without any obvious failures.

Cause

Some 15-3466 components were shipped from the manufacturer (Automotion) with an incorrect or completely ignored deadband calibration. Because this defect can manifest itself in a very intermittent manner, some of these components were likely installed in output devices that were subsequently shipped from the Annacis manufacturing plant.

Solution

Check to see if the internal deadband calibration of the servo amp is incorrect as follows:

  • Ensure no plate is loaded on the drum
  • Type the command drum idle and wait for the drum to come to a complete rest
  • Type the command drum torque 0
At this point the drum must remain stationary. Any movement, no matter how small, is an indication of a fault.
  • If the drum remains stationary, touch it with your hands and check for vibrations.
Any perceptible vibrations are also a fault.
  • Attempt to slowly move the drum back and forth with your hand.
If there is any resistance or if there is a jerky or rough feel to moving the drum, then there is a fault.

  • Note: Be careful not to trip the plate flyoff sensor when performing the hands-on tests.

If any faults are found, replace the component (15-3466).
