Field Change Order # C826

Applies to:    VLF Trendsetter Priority = Next visit
Reason = Design
Release date = 05/20/99

Machines affected

VLF Trendsetters prior to machine B200 that are being field upgraded from an F-head (20W) to a V-head (40W). Machines B159, B186, B191, B192, B197, and B199 have already been done.
Problem Recent testing on VLF Trendsetters showed that the 40W exposure head benefits from enhancements to the electrical system which improve RF immunity (and EMI emissions).
Solution(s) Changes include:
  • RF bonding the exposure head to the powerbox.
  • Using a 75ohm coaxial cable to the exposure head instead of a 50ohm type.
  • Shield grounding 3 cables in the powerbox.
  • Adding a D-Sub inline capacitive filter and a common mode choke to the carriage drive electronics.
  • Moving the EMI filter from the powerbox to a location where the high voltage cables first enter through the base-frame bulkhead.
  • Ensuring metal-to-metal contact (frame bonding) where the engine casting and powerbox mount to the baseframe.
  • Adding a filter board to the 40W exposure head. (Version C change to head)
  • Using the modified FDPE board with shortened traces to the unused circuit of hotlinks transformer. This modified board reduces 'noise' but is not essential for a TSV to meet North American and European emission standards.

This ECO is not mandatory for existing F-Head (20W) or HRX VLF Trendsetters unless they are undergoing conversion to the (40W) V-Head. This ECO is required when field upgrading a TSV from F-Head (20W) to V-Head (40W) prior to machine B200.

This ECO is required on all existing V-Head (40W) machines equipped or upgraded prior to B200.  Machines B159, B186, B191, B192, B197 and B199 have already been done. For those V-Head sites affected, we should follow a pro-active approach and plan each upgrade when downtime on the machine can be scheduled with the customer – we should not wait until next failure.

Parts needed If electronic registration has been field applied to a machine (F-Head or V-Head), then the EMI filter has been relocated and the only kit needed is:

Kit,Upgrade,ECO C826,RFI Enhancement

Kit 05-0106 (RFI Enhancement) contains a new version cable 10-3497C (MDA-SIO-PDB). An extra flat braid attached to the shield makes this version visibly (and functionally) different and is only required when upgrading to the V-Head (40W) or applying this ECO to an existing V-Head (40W) machine. The older version of this cable is part of the SIO laser safety keyswitch system (prior to B200 and excluding European machines listed above) and numerous keyswitch upgrade kits (05-0048) stocked throughout the Creo system. This ECO releases kit 05-0048 (Rev B) and will contain the new version cable 10-3497C. We are not recalling existing SIO keyswitch kits (05-0048) or sending new cables to specifically update them. Instead we are suggesting the following: If only field adding the SIO keyswitch to a F-Head (20W) or HRX machine use kit 05-0048 prior to Rev B. If machine is being upgraded to V-Head (40W) then the new version cable will be supplied automatically with kit 05-0106 (RFI Enhancement). This new version cable must be present on the machine.

The modified FDPE board (or its successor) will be part of all new F-Head (20W) to V-Head (40W) field upgrade kits. Existing V-Head (40W) machines in the field will not require replacement of the old FDPE board with the modified type.

Procedure

72-3093A (RFI Enhancement) and Trendsetter VLF EMI Filter Relocation.

Frame bonding (sanding parts of frame to bare metal and coating with copper paste) is not part of any field upgrade procedure.
