Image skewed on the plate

Product

  • Trendsetter VLF
  • Trendsetter VLF AL

Component

Imaging - Electronic Registration

Error

Image is skewed on the media

Cause

Skewed images are a result of incorrect electronic registration. This can be due to one of the following:

  • >>sys erin is set to “0“, disabling electronic registration. The system cannot detect if the plate is registered or not. Type >>set sys erin 1 and >>set al prr 3 to re-enable electronic registration.
(Prr = plate registration retries, allows you to manually correct plate registration.)

Note: For Trendsetter VLF Autoloader, >>sys erin must always be "1".

  • >>sys erin is set to "1", but an electrical short between the registration block and the drum fools the system into thinking that the plate is registered. For example, a small metal chip may be trapped between the registration block and the drum.

  • >>sys erin is set to "1", but dirt between the leading edge clamps and the plate causes the plate to move from registration when the roller comes down.
Note: The LED light will always be on during plate loading, whether or not electronic registration is disabled ("set sys erin 1" or "set sys erin 0").

Solution

  Troubleshooting Steps:
  1. Check that the parameters are set correctly: >>set sys erin 1 and >>set al prr 3.

  2. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance between the registration block and the drum strap. There should be high resistance or infinity '∞' (no beep if your meter is set for "Beep".). If an electrical short exists, it can be caused by one the following:

a/. A  small metal chip is trapped between the registration block and the drum. Vacuum the registration block area and clean it with alcohol. If you still have a short, then remove the leading edge clamps to clean the pocket between the registration block and the drum (this procedure can take up to one hour). If a short still exists, continue to 'b' and 'c'.

b/. The capton between the registration block and the drum pocket is damaged. Contact the Response Center to request that somebody be sent from Vancouver to replace this part.

c/. The insulated screw used to attach the registration block to the drum is damaged. Contact the Response Center to request that somebody be sent from Vancouver to replace this part.

  3. Use “TEC ON” to open the leading edge clamps, then clean the clamp edges all the way across the drum. It is important for each clamp to have full surface contact with the plate.
(If small hard particles stick to the clamp's bottom surfaces, the plate will be held by point contacts instead of the full surface. When the roller goes down, the plate may pull back from the registration block, causing the image to be skewed.)
