Trendsetter VLF series 2 devices start with serial number B1127 and can be readily identified by the new color scheme: Moon silver on the bottom and twilight purple on the top. All Trendsetter VLF series 2 models have 5880 size drums and a TH1.7 liquid-cooled head for all speed configurations. The speeds available are S, F, and V2.8. The model number will define the maximum image size and the speed of the device.
The Trendsetter VLF Quantum is a large format platesetter that can expose plates for conventional and waterless printing. Format sizes are 45"x57", 50"x67", 54"x67", 50"x80", and 58"x80".
Quantum devices use SQUAREspot thermal imaging, geometric correction and temperature compensation to ensure machine to machine accuracy. The base device comes standard with an S-speed head. Upgrades to F and V speeds are available as factory of field options.
The Trendsetter VLF with entry level imaging is a large format platesetter intended for use in controlled environments with less stringent quality requirements. Format sizes are: 45"x57", 50"x67", 54"x67", 50"x80", and 58"x80".
Entry level devices have guaranteed registration and image repeatability (like Quantum devices), but they do not have guaranteed machine-to-machine image accuracy or temperature compensation. They use non-Quantum thermal imaging, including dynamic auto focus.
The base device comes standard with S-speed imaging. Upgrades to F and V speeds are available as factory or field upgrades.
V2.8 is a speed option for Trendsetter VLFs that uses a faster version of the 40W Thermal 1.7 imaging head. The head uses new electronics to support drum speeds up to 292rpm. All V speed VLF devices shipped after 01 Jan 2003 use this head version. The option is available as a factory or field upgrade and is available in Quantum and non-Quantum versions.
The head images at 686 mm/min (27"/min) or 2.8 times faster than an F head. Productivity on a 50"x80" is 12 full size plates per hour.
Currently, KPG Thermal Gold and Spectratech 830-n are the only two plates that can take advantage of this speed.
