Image on plate “scaled”: Print Console output media thickness not set correctly

checkbox.gif (459 bytes) Tested     uncheckbox.gif (229 bytes) Not Tested

Applies to

Print Console 1.0 up to build 45 (on a Spectrum device with Prinergy)

Problem

Plates made on a Trendsetter/AL with PCS 1.7 and PlateMaster are different from plates made on a Spectrum with Print Console 1.0 (build 42) and Prinergy: the image on the Print Console-made plate was scaled around the drum. (If you run a job which imaged an inch grid on the plate you can clearly see the creep.)

The output medium (plate types) which are configured in Print Console have a thickness parameter. This value is sent to the output device, and must be filled in correctly.

In this case, the thickness value for plating output media had been set to 0.001 inches instead of 0.012 inches (Kodak IR media). The result was that the image was “scaled” incorrectly.

In the version of Print Console being used, the output media thickness value has a default initial value of 0, and it is up to the user to put in the correct value. If you leave this set to 0 you get a warning stating that 0 is out of the accepted range, which is 0.001 to 1.5 inches. The customer likely chose 0.001 inches just to clear the warning.

Workaround

Set the correct thickness value for the plating output media being used (0.012 inches for Kodak IR media).

Permanent fix

As of build 46 of Print Console, the output media thickness defaults to 0.012 inches for Aluminium plates.

However, if you are not using Kodak IR plates you will still need to enter the correct thickness value for the plating media you are using.
