Main scan direction image shift (5/16")

checkbox.gif (459 bytes) Tested     uncheckbox.gif (229 bytes) Not Tested

Applies to

Print Console 1.0 release (the Early Production release, version 1.0.0.53).

Problem

Plate (and proof) images are shifted 300 mil (or 5/16") around the drum.

Note that if all plates are made with the same version of Print Console there won’t be a problem with image registration, since the 5/16" shift will be present on all of the plates.

This problem is more critical with plates, since the image position on a proof already varies with the location of the receiver on the carrier.

Workaround

For plating in a Prinergy workflow, set the device clipping to 0 and the margins to 0 (via the Service Menu) and Print Console will not send a shift. In the case of Prinergy, the Print Console margin/clipping info is not used by the RIP, so the data will still be correctly clipped by the 300 mils chosen in the Prinergy system.

Note that this workaround fixes the shift for plates in a Prinergy workflow only: there is no workaround for either plating or proofing in a PCC workflow.

Note: Although this workaround fixes the image shift problem for plating in a Prinergy workflow, we feel that this problems are serious enough that we are now using Print Console build 46 (which comes on the Prinergy 1.0 CDs) as the official version for use with Prinergy.

Permanent Fix

Print Console 1.0.1—which corrects this problem—has been released (as of the week of October 4, 1999). However, until Print Console 1.0.1 has been qualified for use with Prinergy systems, Prinergy systems will continue to use Print Console build 46.
